Concerns over bias and deletion handling – File:El Escudo de Armas del Estado Táchira.svg

Hello,

I would like to raise a concern regarding the recent deletion and undeletion rejection of Undeletion request for the Coats of Arms of Táchira. I believe the process involved lacks neutrality and transparency, and potentially shows signs of a conflict of interest between the nominator and the UDR administrator.

  1. The file was deleted based on the assumption that it is a derivative work of a painting by Marcos León Mariño, but no actual visual comparison or copyright analysis was made (see, ).
  2. I filed a detailed Undeletion Request explaining that my vectorized version is distinct, and the symbol is public domain under Venezuelan law (1993 Copyright Law).
  3. The UDR was dismissed with a short reply by admin Bedivere stating there was “no evidence,” while ignoring the core of the argument: that the deleted image is not a copy of the painting.
  4. A few days prior, the same administrator admitted (see, [talk:Bedivere]) that he "didn't really know" if these images could be deleted, and that "they are clearly public domain in Venezuela."
  5. The nominator and the administrator are both involved from the beginning and show a pattern of coordination that may go against the spirit of impartial review.

I request that: - This deletion and the UDR rejection be reviewed by an uninvolved admin. - That the images be re-evaluated based on actual visual comparison, not speculative assumptions. - And that, if possible, the issue of potential conflict of interest between nominator and deleting admin be taken seriously. 1. It is not PD under the 1993 Copyright Law (nowhere it states symbols are PD). 2. There is no evidence the image is in the public domain in Venezuela, you have failed to provide it. 3. At the time I could not review the situation and that is the reason why I declined to provide an analysis at the time. 4. Asking to provide evidence then getting accused, along with Turelio ("deleting admin") and Abchy ("nominator") of "lacking neutrality and transparency", "showing signs of a conflict of interest", is gross enough to merit a block.   • I'm not at all comfortable with the admin in question issuing a block to a user who raises the matter of an admin action. This is hardly "User:Example is fat, stupid and ugly" of the type that anyone should issue a block on sight. Even if they're ultimately wrong, OP is at least ostensibly raising a material disagreement about copyright. This comes off a bit too much as a "don't question my authority" approach, even if merely appearance.
    @Bedivere: you should reverse this block and if needed, allow someone else to handle it. It seems less than ideal to try to resolve the matter by giving permission to others to reverse your action. GMGtalk 14:30, 28 July 2025 (UTC)

A VRT request was sent by this user's brother for files uploaded by İmran Abdin. Because all copyright belongs to him. But it's not being accepted. Everything in the request is clear. So why is it still not being accepted? Could you please help we with this?

@Gadir what makes you think that it is not being accepted? There's a clear VRT notice (at the bottom of the "Summary" section and right above the "License" section) on at least File:Azərbaycan Respublikasının əməkdar rəssamı Telman Abdinov.jpg. It just takes time for the VRT request to be processed, but the request has clearly been received. Nakonana (talk) 15:10, 26 July 2025 (UTC)

@Jeff G., I have no contact with his brother. I contacted İmran Abdin via email. He said his brother emailed VRT about the permission and later received a reply. Involved admin Kadı blocking Çınarcan for no apparent reason

Commons admin Kadı has blocked Çınarcan a couple of days ago, the reason given is "Spamming: cross-wiki spammer, Tunar.ee's account. Continued to spamming.".

(For context, I have had significant conflicts with Kadı as well, so I'm an involved user too. I'm writing this here in case this is weaponised against me later.)

This is made against a user with 4 edits on Commons. For context, Kadı has had significant conflicts with Çınarcan in Turkish Wikipedia (https://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vikipedi:Denet%C3%A7i_iste%C4%9Fi/Dava/Onyeddi), in Gagauz Wikipedia (https://gag.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kullan%C4%B1c%C4%B1_dart%C4%B1%C5%9Fma:Johannnes89) and on Meta.

I want to ping @Johannnes89 here, as they can bear witness, if necessary, to the fact that these users have had conflicts before.

I don't know about the nature of the block and I don't know if it was justified or not. But the involvement of an administrator in previous conflicts clouds the objectivity of the block decision. Egezort (talk) 12:44, 27 July 2025 (UTC)

These links are irrelevant with Commons. Çınarcan continued to upload promotional content, then I blocked him. He is blocked in Wikidata also. If you do not know about the nature of the block, why did you create a discussion here?
Other admins can check Tunar.ee and Çınarcan’s deleted contributions.

This was simple promotional spam massively uploaded every day. Deleting and blocking was absolutely fine. But I would not have blocked talk page access as there are no signs that this will be abused. GPSLeo (talk) 13:06, 27 July 2025 (UTC)

Commons has own policies. Also, I do not have any conflict with Çınarcan here. As an admin, if I see an user who violates the policies, I am not refrainging from blocking. It does not matter, if he is Çınarcan or not.
I blocked Çınarcan because he continued spamming. Also he was blocked in Wikidata. You did not evaluate the issue, please do it. Fileing complaints about users without enough evaluation is not appropriate. Also Çınarcan can send email to me about the block, and I do not understand the topic’s relevancy with you. Asking for a second request from Timmy96

I am asking for help to rename the six photos of mine. It's because I don't want to risk with the photos of File:Hamza Choudhury 24082024 (2).jpg removed, which are currently on the English Wikipedia, Italian Wikipedia, Japanese Wikipedia and Russian Wikipedia. Here are the following six pictures that I requested to move:

I think this should not be a DR. You can make a proposal but be aware all similar proposals from the past had clear consensus against them. So only create it if you really have something new to propose. GPSLeo (talk) 12:54, 30 July 2025 (UTC)

Recreated files against consensus

Hi. We have a special speedy deletion criterion for recreated files against consensus, COM:CSD#G4 (recreation of content previously deleted per community consensus). However, in researching File:Daewoo logo.svg, I have found no easier way for finding files that meet that criterion than looking for the files in this log (tagged "Recreated") manually and then looking at their individual deletion logs manually, leading to an epidemic of such files falling through the cracks (roughly 96% or 24 of the last 25 uploads I saw listed). Is there an easier way? If not, Admins please peruse those logs yourselves, delete the files under that criterion (or any other applicable criteria), and discipline the offenders on an ongoing basis.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:07, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
