Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.
Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?
  • Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
  • Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

@Bedivere:Buenas, necesito que remueve esto (File:The Martyrdom of St Joan of Arc at the stake.jpg) publiqué por error como "own work" a esta foto, publique desde screenshot desde una serie de Miraculous Ladybug, en un episodio cuando Marinette le preguntó a Santa Juana de Arco y dijo:"que fue lo que pasó"? y ella (Santa Juana de Arco) contó su historia y aparece la fotografía de version del Martirio (osea nueva fotografía creada en la actualidad). What is the potential educational use of a comic you made? It was not even used in your userpages. COM:WEBHOST applies too. Set up a Tumblr, for example (does Tumblr still exist?) Bedivere (talk) 02:38, 1 May 2025 (UTC)

It is a work by Reuters. Even Heute says so. It is not Reuters claiming it is a CC work, but Heute. How do newspapers get their material? Most of times by licensing. I doubt Heute had a license to relicense the material under such a liberal license. Please provide definite proof Reuters released the file under such license. No creo que sea apropiado. Primero hay que actualizar la página COM:VENEZUELA y luego complementar la plantilla ya existente. No es necesario otra, por lo que la borraré, además porque sugiere que las obras expiran con 50 años y eso no es correcto desde que se promulgó la ley vigente. Solo las obras que expiraron mientras la ley anterior estuvo vigente, están en el dominio público. --Bedivere (talk) 17:32, 13 May 2025 (UTC)

Yeah, basically all works that expired with the 50 years term on 1 January 1993 are in the public domain in Venezuela and the US per the URAA. Meaning that works created by people dead in 1942 or before, along with those anonymous, are PD in both countries. And the previous 1920s law meant that works without proper registration passed onto the public domain within some years. If there is no public registry (online or offline) which could help prove such registrations, it'd be hard to make a template for those cases, but there could be another template for that purpose.
