Template documentation[view · edit · history · purge]
This documentation is transcluded from Template:ImageAnnotations/doc.

This template can be placed in an article to specify how notes on the included images should be shown.

Usage

{{ImageAnnotations |inline= |thumb= |shared= }}

Definitions made through this template for an article may override definitions made through {{InlineImageAnnotations}} for the image. So, if the file description page of a file Foo.jpg contains {{InlineImageAnnotations|thumb=icon}} but an article X containing this image Foo.jpg specifies {{ImageAnnotations|thumb=hide}}, notes on Foo.jpg will not be shown in article X. Similarly, if article X specifies {{ImageAnnotations|thumb=show}}, the notes will be shown in article X even though the file description page says to show only an icon.

Note that for this template, thumb=show has the effect of overriding a per-image specification. The default is also "show", but if it's not specified explicitly, the specification from the image will override that default. The same is true for the inline parameter.

TemplateData

TemplateData is a way to store information about template parameters (the description of those and of the whole template) for both humans and machines. It is used by VisualEditor and possibly other tools like Upload Wizard.

Existing template documentation
At Wikimedia Commons, it is recommended to use {{TemplateBox}} with either ‎useTemplateData=1 or ‎useTemplateData=only on the ‎/doc subpage and transcluding it with {{Documentation}} into the template. <nowiki>-tags can be wrapped around the arguments, if required, to avoid templates being expanded.

Newly created template documentation and imports
Another option, especially for imported templates, or for users with JSON experience, is placing raw <templatedata>-tags into the Wikitext of the template, as described in various Wikipediae.
