Ladakh

Ladakh (Tibetan script: ལ་དྭགས་; Wylie: la-dwags, Ladakhi: [lad̪ɑks]; Hindi: लद्दाख़) is a region administered by India as a union territory. It is situated in India between the Kunlun mountain range in the north and the main Great Himalayas to the south. It is inhabited by people of Indo-Aryan and ethnic Tibetan descent, and is one of the most sparsely populated territory in India. A majority of Ladakhis are Shia Muslims and the rest are Tibetan Buddhists. The Saltoro ridge in the Siachen Glacier is an active military zone even today. Today Ladakh consists of two districts—Kargil and Leh.
