  I renamed the files in that category based on the naming system used for Indonesia's national cultural heritage. Ijo Temple itself is divided into four parts: the main temple and three perwara (ancillary) temples (I've also included the source in the reason for the renaming). If the change is not approved, feel free to revert the names, as our team's reference is the official institutions responsible for the site—namely, the Cultural Heritage Preservation Office Region X and the Sleman Department of Culture.   Hi @Nerissa Lyra. Although that would certainly be a justification on the English Wikipedia, on Commons the naming scheme of files is significantly freer. Files may be descriptive, or they may follow a set naming scheme determined by the uploader. In this case, I did what I always did when uploading my photographs of Indonesia: I included an English-language descriptor that had broader reach than a purely Indonesian (or Javanese) title. Candi Ijo, for example, was used because that was the category at the time. I recommend referring to Commons:File naming for guidance. I specifically note the introduction and its emphasis on the cost of renaming files. As an aside, if your project is not working with WMID, it would be best to reach out to them. I do not know who the current president is - it was Mas Biyanto when I left - but they can help you avoid potential pratfalls.  — Chris Woodrich (talk) 23:09, 18 June 2025 (UTC)

  As for "kalamakara", in a file name the specific term is not always the best - especially when the language of the original upload uses a different romanization scheme for Sanskrit-derived words. Also problematic, you translated 'carving' as 'ukiran' when the term may encompass a relief, a piece of whittling, or even (as in this case) a sculpture carved from a piece of stone. Globale Ersetzung der Waadtländer Glanzwappen

Yo, @Ziv: A propos Ersetzung von schweizer Glanzwappen! Die Gemeindewappen der Waadt wären noch ein ausstehender Fall. Die Waadt zählt gegenwärtig rund 300 politische Gemeinden, deren alte Glanzwappen nun auf Commons alle in einer reellen Neuzeichnung vorliegen, aber noch nicht alle global ersetzt worden sind. In diesem Bestand finden sich einige Dutzend, bei denen das alte Glanzwappen bereits global durch seine reelle Neuzeichnung ersetzt worden ist. In der überwiegenden Zahl der Fälle wurde die Ersetzung bisher jedoch erst in den französisch-, deutsch-, italienisch- und englischsprachigen Wikipedien vorgenommen, sowie auf Wikidata. Ich bin nebenher auch die anderen Kantone am Durchgehen. Ich habe bemerkt, du hattest da schon 2024 einige neu gezeichnet, die meisten Sprachversionen hatten aber noch die Version von 2009 in Verwendung. Apropos, kannst du dir die Wappen von Baden AG mal genauer anschauen? Da gibt es im Moment 4 Stück. Das Sinnvollste wäre es wohl eines davon zu updaten, dann könnte man die Verwendung davon auch auf eines reduzieren. Waadtland nehme ich mir sehr gerne als nächstes Mal vor. Merci für die Info. @Ziv: Der grösste zusammenhängende Bestand unter den verbleibenden Glanzwappen sind jene der Tessiner Gemeinden. Diese Wappen sind nur punktuell überarbeitet und wären wohl bald einmal fällig, alle nach dem Armoriale dei comuni ticinesi (1953) bereinigt zu werden.

Zu den Aargauer Gemeindewappen: Das Standardwerk über diese Wappen ist das Buch Gemeindewappen Kanton Aargau von J.M. Galliker und M. Giger (2004). Dem Buch liegt eine CD-ROM bei, die digitale Vorlagen aller besprochenen Wappen, Flaggen und Siegel enthält, dies in den Formaten EPS, WMF, TIF, JPG und SVG. Man hätte auf Commons einfach die SVG-Dateien der CD-ROM übernehmen können. Stattdessen hat man gegersauert: man zog es vor, die Rasterdateien selber neu zu vektorisieren. Vor ein paar Jahren lud ich die fehlenden Aargauer Gemeindewappen direkt ab der CD-ROM hoch und ersetzte die schlechtesten der selbergelismeten Vektorisierungen durch die entsprechenden Originale direkt ab der CD-ROM.

Ganz bestimmt nicht ersetzt habe ich dabei die Wappen von Jwnabd. Diese sind solide Wertarbeit, sauber und resourcenschonend von Hand in einem Text-Editor hergestellt. Man verbuche dies unter der Rubrik Hardcore Geekery! Also, das Badener Wappen von Jwnabd muss bleiben.

Nebenbei bemerkt: Jwnabd befleissigte sich auch, die Aargauer Palette zu verwenden, die dem Wappenbuch von Galliker und Giger als Farbkarte beiliegt. Die Aargauer Palette ist zwar auf Commons inzwischen eine Teilmenge der Schweizer Palette geworden und könnte deshalb eigentlich von der Schweizer Palette abgelöst werden. Sie wird jedoch beibehalten, weil sie die Autorität der ersten und immer noch überzeugendsten RGB-Farbkarte für schweizer Heraldik besitzt, und und die Schweizer Palette ihre Autorität von dieser Aargauer Palette bezieht.

Ebenfalls nebenbei: Ich habe damit begonnen, die Dateibeschreibungen der Aargauer Gemeindewappen auf die COAInformation-Vorlage umzustellen und die Blasonierungen nach dem Wappenregister der Gemeinden Aargau zu zitieren, bin aber noch nicht sehr weit gekommen damit, bloss von Aarau bis Birrhard. Ich bin da schon seit ein paar Tagen dran. Ich habe auch die Glanzvarianten in Category:SVG coats of arms of the canton of Vaud durch die Version Matt ersetzt. Ich hätte noch folgende drei für dich: File:Goumoens-le-Jux-coat of arms.svg, File:Goumoens-la-Ville-coat of arms.svg und File:Éclagnens-coat of arms.svg. Hier gibt es neben den Glanzvarianten nur noch ältere jpg.-Dateien. Eilt nicht, aber könnten durchaus auch eine Ersetzung vertragen. :) . Ev. gibt es da noch mehr. Die Gemeindefusionen des Kantons Waadt waren in den letzten paar Jahrzehnten besonders zahlreich, was eine grosse Zahl von ehemaligen Gemeindewappen des Kantons nach sich zog. Bei der Überarbeitung der waadtländer Glanzwappen habe ich mich zunächst auf die aktuellen Wappen beschränkt. Die meisten ehemaligen Gemeindewappen sind noch abzuarbeiten. « Corps législatif » et non pas « corps législatif »

Bonjour Ziv,
vous avez refusé à tort un renommage.
en Français le « corps législatif » désigne indifféremment tous les parlementaires qui peuvent lui appartenir. Ainsi en employant ce terme il est possible de désigner dans le même temps les membres de la Chambre des lords, du Congrès des États-Unis, de l’Assemblée nationale, etc.
A l’inverse le Corps législatif,avec un « C » majuscule désigne une institution unique (le terme est d’ailleurs repris en Anglais – en:Corps législatif).
Donc nous ne sommes pas dans le cadre d’une capitalisation qui irait à l’encontre d’un projet multi-langages.

Manifestement (veuillez m’excuser d’écrire un tel propos) vous ne maîtrisez pas bien la langue française.

Ainsi seules ces graphies seraient recevables :

Selon les recommandations de Wikimedia Commons le français pourrait s’accommoder de :

Ainsi refuser que « corps législatif » devienne « Corps législatif » n’est pas simplement une faute d’orthographe/de typographie au nom d'une capitalisation excessive selon Wikimedia Commons mais aboutirait à un contre-sens.

De fait Wikimedia Commons se met à l'abri d'un tel travers et écrit :

« D'une manière générale il est préférable... ». En clair de façon exceptionnelle Wikimedia Commons tient compte des cas d’espèce.

Hey @Ziv, I saw that you reverted the duplicate template I added on this image here. There are two other uploads of this file that exist that mention the family featured as being Assyrian, Nestorian or Christian (I believe one of them is also a duplicate), originally from the Library of Congress. The image is also primarily used in Assyrian articles on various language editions of Wikipedia. I'm inclined to assume that the ethnic identity of the family in the photo is Assyrian, and for the file named in the title, the linked source doesn't work though I haven't tried to access a potential archive of it yet. Let me know your thoughts on how to proceed from here.

Also, I noticed your user page has a box with "Hello" in different languages, would you perhaps consider adding ܫܠܡܐ? This is the way to say "Peace" in various Neo-Aramaic dialects today! Surayeproject3 (talk) 16:07, 10 July 2025 (UTC)

We at the German Coat of Arms Project are striving to standardize the coats of arms of the DACH region. For example, "DEU Place Name COA." The same applies to Austria and Switzerland. I had started moving older coats of arms according to this scheme until I was told this wasn't a Criterion 4 reason for a move. I've stopped doing that since then. Renaming files

Hi

Filenames in other languages might cause confusion for users of other languages. Specifically, when they have no English description. English filename helps users to find and understand files, much faster and easier.

Sometimes, a user might use an online translators, but it does'nt translate the names correctly. They might translate a letter of a language to an incorrect letter of another language. Like: "گ" and "ق" to "G" or "GH". Another example: "c" to "س" or "ک". Shkuru Afshar (talk) 02:56, 25 July 2025 (UTC)

Please read COM:FRNOT, Criterium 2. There's no reason to favor English over other languages. For this reason, we will not rename files from Farsi to English or vice versa. Oh, these requests. Some of them have been there for months, like the painting by Eugène Delacroix. I occasionally manually swap files like these in the language versions. Some edits have been undone afterward. I removed one suggestion because I don't think the picture is better.
