Not to be confused with its Cornish counterpart, the pastie could be considered one of Northern Ireland's national dishes at it is regularly bought from chip shops across the province and generally can't be found anywhere else. Here is a recipe to try your own version.

Procedure

  1. Combine the cooked meat, breadcrumbs, cooked onion, parsley, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, water, coriander, and mashed potatoes.
  2. Form the mixture into a disc about 3 inches in diameter.
  3. Dip the disc into the batter so it's completely covered.
  4. Deep-fry in 375°F oil, and remove when golden brown.
  5. Serve hot with chips (French fries).
