Extension:TorBlock is messed up

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

In Extension:TorBlock, there has been 3 edits by a user which seems to have messed up the page. I couldn't do a rollback since that seems to require admin (which I do not have), so I'm asking for someone to rollback the messy edits. JacksonChen666 (talk) 16:50, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up, done. KHarlan (WMF) (talk) 18:55, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

Everytime i try to publish a written piece, i am greeted with this error. The error says:

"Editing the main namespace is limited for new users. This site is for documenting the MediaWiki software. It is not the wiki that you set up for your class, workplace, or personal use, nor is it Wikipedia. "

How do i face this issue? I'm new to Mediawiki. Kaisapeepoo226 (talk) 04:53, 9 January 2024 (UTC)

MediaWiki.org is for the MediaWiki software. See Project:About. Please go to Wikipedia to create your articles. 94rain Talk 04:56, 9 January 2024 (UTC)

Please actually read the error you received. The content you are attempting to post is not appropriate for this wiki. ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 04:57, 9 January 2024 (UTC)

Request for a translation administrator (localize these links)

Could someone go and make the displays of the links in the table at Extension status translatable? Aaron Liu (talk) 21:24, 13 January 2024 (UTC)

If you mean the Release status column: I believe it aims to list the possible parameter values, which are by nature untranslatable (since they’re always entered on the English translatable page rather than on the translation pages). Tacsipacsi (talk) 00:15, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
Ahh... that makes sense. Aaron Liu (talk) 00:50, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

NoteTA doesn't convert if the page is set to convert to zh-hant

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

See Extension:DiscussionTools/Comparison/zh. Notice occurrences of "可视化". Click on "不转换" and select "繁體". Notice how two of the occurrences have been converted to "視覺化" yet another was converted to "可視化". Select "臺灣正體" from the dropdown. Notice that all occurrences have now been converted to "視覺化".

I believe this is because the first two occurrences are converted by {{LC zh }}, which was made for this wiki, and the last occurrence is converted by {{NoteTA }}, which was copied from zhwiki, which doesn't have "简体" or "繁體" as options for conversion. As a result, NoteTA probably doesn't recognize these two converting modes. Could someone fix that? Aaron Liu (talk) 22:55, 13 January 2024 (UTC)

Intended behavior. Please use zh-cn, zh-tw, zh-hk instead. Winston Sung (talk) 05:10, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
If so, why are the hans and hant variants available for selection in the first place? Aaron Liu (talk) 14:34, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
They were designated for script-only (character-only) conversion without term conversion, especially for testing and non-term-conversion usages like Wiktionary. Winston Sung (talk) 14:52, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

Chinese variant conversion settings?

Is there a way to set which variant Chinese pages are converted to by default? Currently it's always "Don't convert". Aaron Liu (talk) 16:55, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

Visit https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:ApiSandbox#action=options&optionname=variant-zh&optionvalue=zh-cn , click auto-fill CSRF token and submit. Winston Sung (talk) 05:09, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
Is there a way to expose these preferences instead of needing to use an API call? Aaron Liu (talk) 15:21, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

Could a translation administrator set up translation for the page Extension:LiquidThreads? Thanks! Aaron Liu (talk) 14:36, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

The page needs to be edited to add the translation markup, and this can be done by anyone (it doesn't require translation administration rights). Once that's done, a translation admin can mark it as ready to be translated. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 21:27, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
Done marking, now all we need is a translation administrator. Aaron Liu (talk) 23:54, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
Done. 日本語 and Türkçe translations will need to be migrated manually, though Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:06, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks! Does translation not cover e.g. romajifying names of people? Aaron Liu (talk) 12:26, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
I didn't though about it. I've removed those variables Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 18:03, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks! I’ve also added a translation tag to the authors’ parameter in the infobox. Could you mark the page for translation again? Aaron Liu (talk) 14:17, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
Nevermind that, it's marked for translation. Thanks! Aaron Liu (talk) 17:26, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

Move 'changetags' right from 'user' users group

Hello! It seems to me that it is a little wrong that 'user' users can edit manual tags, since such vandalism is easy to overlook and quite difficult to rollback: https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&page=Special%3ALog%2Fpagetranslation&type=tag Iniquity (talk) 21:37, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
Justman10000 (talk) 13:04, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
I support this. There's another right called "applychangetags" that won't affect the ability to tag their own edits when using gadgets to perform actions. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 21:57, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
Agreed. We've had a years-long history of vandalism using this feature not being noticed or reverted. * Pppery * it has begun 22:39, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
+1; I blocked the most recent user vandalizing via tags but didn't go further with cleanup when I saw how many tags were added, we definitely shouldn't allow the cleanup problem to be compounded further. ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 22:44, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
Also as a general note, it's not just pagetranslation stuff that gets vandalized with tags: Special:Log/tag. ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 22:45, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
Support. And I feel this should probably be removed from 'user' user group by default. Is there a reason to enable it for users when we already have 'applychangetags'? 94rain Talk 22:10, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
@94rain, I agree with you, the right should be removed from regular users by default. Iniquity (talk) 06:27, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
I've been wondering the whole time why we can do that 🤣 Justman10000 (talk) 13:05, 8 February 2024 (UTC)

Proposal to handle location variations in Template:MW file

For example, Title.php has different locations for versions 1.40 and later and versions prior to that.

Can {{MW file}} be adapted to handle such location variations? Shirayuki (talk) 13:12, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
