composer create-project pyrocms/pyrocms

Khi bạn clone source đã có về:

composer update

Setup project:

php artisan install

Is your question about MediaWiki itself? MediaWiki does not support downloading Maps. It's a wiki software. Malyacko (talk) 10:02, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

I see several articles on how to add an attachment to a MediaWiki page but while in Edit I don't see any option to select Add > Attachment.

To do so:

  1. Browse to the page you wish to attach the file to (or you may attach files to your space's Home page).
  2. Click Add > Attachment.
  3. Click the Browse button to browse for a file on your computer.
  4. Highlight the file you want to attach, then click "Open"
  5. If desired, add a comment to the file.

I want to know how to add a word document or link a word document to our Wiki page.

Thank you. 50.235.216.218 (talk) 13:36, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

For including files into a Wiki page, you'll need to upload them. See Help:Managing files.
By-the-way, where on a Wiki page do you get the "Add > Attachment" links? It should either be embed file for the WikiEditor or "Insert > Media" in the case of VisualEditor. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 15:24, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
Make sure you have created an account and are logged in to MediaWiki.
On the left hand side, there should be a 'Tools' section with 'Upload File" below it.
By default anonymous uploads are not allowed. You must register and log in before the upload file link appears in the toolbox. 2601:144:C002:4E10:613F:5D0D:3462:7554 (talk) 01:44, 18 July 2021 (UTC)

Is there any way to import a wiki from the source files?

Hello guys

I have the source files from a mediawiki wiki, but I don't have a backup of the database.

It there any way to recreate the database of the wiki from the source files? I don't see a way to do it from the "Restoring a wiki from backup" web page.

Manual:Restoring a wiki from backup#File transfer Nemael (talk) 14:58, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

No, unfortunately there isn't. Only media files would be able to be restored. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 15:14, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

Unable to create thumbnails for mp4 video files manually

So apparently my instance of MediaWiki (1.32.0 with TimedMediaHandler extension installed) does not create thumbnails for videos.

I generated a whole set with GIMP and named them after the original file name Blocking_electrostatic_induction_from_Spark_generator.mp4

as follows 1200px-Blocking_electrostatic_induction_from_Spark_generator.mp4.jpg, and put the set in the directory

I uploaded them to this directory here: https://atur.us/pera/images/thumb/7/74/Blocking_electrostatic_induction_from_Spark_generator.mp4/240px-Blocking_electrostatic_induction_from_Spark_generator.mp4.jpg

Which should be the right directory for thumbnails for the original file , which is here: https://atur.us/pera/images/7/74/Blocking_electrostatic_induction_from_Spark_generator.mp4

No thumbnail appears on the file page or in category listings.

Is there a step I am missing?

Thanks so much! Kenmayer (talk) 18:14, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

I'm attempting to create an account for the KSP wiki (wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com), but every time I fill in the fields and press create account, it gives me a pop-up to agree to the privacy policy. Even if I select "I agree" it deletes the information I put in and I cannot go further. I'm pretty sure it's not the captcha. 2603:9001:1A02:FFF4:F1DA:6D7C:6AAF:43EF (talk) 18:30, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

Is there any ways to manually create an account in the Mysql database of a mediawiki?

Hello guys

I have the source files of a mediawiki that I have setup to run locally

I want to modify some pages, however the account creation is restricted to Administrators accounts (which I do not have access to).

Is there any way to insert a new Administrator account in the database, or to get the credentials of the only administrator account that already exist?

MediaWiki 1.31.0
PHP 7.0.24 (fpm-fcgi)
MySQL 5.7.11-log
Lua 5.1.5

We're having an issue with images at https://awoiaf.westeros.org. Many times an image is linked to using [File:Image|option], instead of getting the image source tag pointing to the actual rendered file it instead points to thumb.php.

For example, this code at the page https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Roger_Reyne

"File:TheProudLordReyne_by_fuderiki.jpg|thumb|right|The Red Lion of Castamere, drowned within his own seat" ends up in the HTML as pointing to the image source being https://awoiaf.westeros.org/thumb.php?f=TheProudLordReyne_by_fuderiki.jpg&width=300 instead of https://awoiaf.westeros.org/images/thumb/f/fc/TheProudLordReyne_by_fuderiki.jpg/300px-TheProudLordReyne_by_fuderiki.jpg

We believe this issue is causing a massive increase in requests hitting our backend, as Varnish appears not to be able to properly cache these images.

Also realized that perhaps our skin, Tweeki, is somehow at fault, but tested using ?useskin=Vector and the results are the same. Balerion300 (talk) 05:18, 2 May 2019 (UTC)

I decided to try and verify when this started happening using Archive.org. It appears to have started in June of last year, which coincidentally is when we upgraded to 1.31 from 1.25 or 1.26. We didn't realize this situation was a problem until now due to the fact that the traffic situation was pretty calm last year (aka lack of a GAME OF THRONES season driving traffic).
The question now is, how would one go about getting the wiki pages to link to the generated thumbnails instead of calling up the thumb.php script each and every time? Balerion300 (talk) 10:15, 2 May 2019 (UTC)
Looks like you have configured $wgThumbnailScriptPath to point to your thumb.php script. The default is false, which generates a direct URL to the image Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 13:35, 2 May 2019 (UTC)
That was it. Failed to properly understand the description of the setting. Removing that fixed the issue entirely. Thank you! Balerion300 (talk) 20:40, 2 May 2019 (UTC)

Semantic #compound_query is not working in MediaWiki 1.31.1

Hi,

We are just upgrading MediaWiki 1.30 to MediaWiki 1.31.1 (LTS). Below are the current software updates under the RHEL7 server

Installed software

Product Version
MediaWiki 1.31.1
PHP 7.1.8 (apache2handler)
MySQL 5.6.40
ICU 50.1.2

I could see all following semantic extensions with their dependency libs are being upgraded successfully using automatic composer installations

Also I have ran the SMW3.0 maintenance scripts in the server. But, I see still the #compound_query tag is not executing results and the Maps extension is also not working. Please suggest fix on these couple of issue that we are currently facing in system

Background

hello guys, I was searching for information "how to change background" but found absolutely nothing. I want to change background on the head and bottom, but how?

I use mediawiki 1.30.1 89.151.179.220 (talk) 15:03, 2 May 2019 (UTC)

This can be done by applying additional CSS rules to specific classes of the page. These rules will be included in the MediaWiki:Common.css page.
To find out which classes are relevant for your purpose, on your Wiki page press Ctrl+Shift+C, wait a few moments, and this will open the selection tool of your browser's built-in developer tools. With the selection tool, click on the part of the page you want to apply changes to. This will put into focus the relevant CSS classes. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 16:44, 2 May 2019 (UTC)

Microsoft SQL Server Express

Hi,

The below page states the express edition of Microsoft SQL server is not supported. Does this mean it simply won't work or it should work but don't expect any support if something goes wrong?

Manual:Microsoft SQL Server 80.229.235.129 (talk) 17:34, 2 May 2019 (UTC)

It simply means that it might work or might not work, and that it is up to you to find out. Malyacko (talk) 09:04, 3 May 2019 (UTC)

LDAP Questions

I messed up and need some help. I upgraded to 1.32.1, upgrading PHP (to PHP7 from PHP5) and Apache in the process. I also upgraded the LDAPAuthentication extension for version 1.32.1. Authentication with LDAP does not work any longer. It worked prior to upgrade. I watch network traffic and no attempts to AD server are even being made so its all about the MediaWiki server. I've tried reverting back to no avail though I haven't gone as far as downgrading PHP and Apache, yet.

1) wgLDAPDebug - I've tried 3, I've tried 99. Where exactly should debug logs be to view them? I'm not seeing anything.

2) Anyone gotten LDAPAuthentication to work in a new Ubuntu, up to date mysql and apache?

This is the Auth section of LocalSettings.php. I've tried many variations.

## Enable LDAP Authentication

$wgAuth = new LdapAuthenticationPlugin();

$wgLDAPSearchAttributes = array( "mydomain.com" => "sAMAccountName" );

$wgLDAPRetrievePrefs = array( "mydomain.com" => "true" );

$wgLDAPPreferences = array("mydomain.com" => array( "email" => "mail","realname" => "displayname"));

A number of deprecated functions is still in my database after the update

Upgrade from 1.16 --> 1.32 went mostly smooth, but now the edit page is just a blank screen (i have display_errors on and the recommeded in wf settings set to true).

In browser console I see the following errors:

And similar. As far as my understanding goes, the functions are called from DB (there are no "addOnloadHook" in any of the actual files and as I've read its deprecated). How can I update my database in a way that will allow me to at least have a usable edit page?

Too be clear, I have downloaded new version of Mediawiki and a new Vector skin, then I run update.php as the instruction told me and did some minor changes to LocalSettings.php (disabled outdates extensions and replaced the 'required_once' with 'wfLoadSkin'). The website is 99% working, except when it comes to edits. Deimos (talk) 16:02, 3 May 2019 (UTC)

Looks more like deprecated JavaScript errors. Do you have any old code in MediaWiki:Common.js? Try removing that and temporarily disabling all extensions and see if it changes anything. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 17:44, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
Yes, there is a bunch of functions in this page, including the addOnloadHook function. But... How do I remove it? Where is the code stored in files? Deimos (talk) 20:45, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
The error is caused by Pinterest Save Button.
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/pinterest-save-button/gpdjojdkbbmdfjfahjcgigfpmkopogic Shirayuki (talk) 04:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
^^As mentioned above, have you checked MediaWiki:Common.js? Try removing that and temporarily disabling all extensions and see if it changes anything. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 04:45, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
So, I open that page and see that there are problematic functions, including the addOnloadHook. But I don't know how to remove it without breaking the site. I search for this function in files, but only find it in backups of old theme and installation. I searh for it in database, but even if I delete all the rows where this function is mentioned, I still get the same 'addOnloadHook is not defined' and I also partially break my wiki (had to restore DB from backup. I feel like the next step I'm going to do is to downgrade to the last version of mediawiki used addOnloadHook function. Deimos (talk) 09:08, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
Removing all the code from MediaWiki:Common.js shouldn't break the site. Everything defined on that page is extra in the sense that it is not needed for core MediaWiki installation to work.
And definitely do not directly edit the database. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 14:01, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
Well, could you point me how do i do that? Note that 'Edit' button just pops the blank page for me. Deimos (talk) 08:26, 7 May 2019 (UTC)
Apologies, forgot that part of your original post.😴
Maybe disabling JavaScript in your browser and then trying to edit might help? AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 10:02, 7 May 2019 (UTC)
Omg, that fixed it! Disabling js in browser for my wiki allowed me to edit pages. Then I just removed the problematic functions, enabled js, hit Ctrl-F5 and voila. Thank you! Deimos (talk) 10:17, 7 May 2019 (UTC)

How to make articles unvisible?

Hi, I want to make the following setting in my wiki:

All articles, which are not in any category shall be unvisible for guests.

I have MediaWiki 1,23,9. I know its old.

Thanks 84.137.169.209 (talk) 19:42, 3 May 2019 (UTC)

Very difficult to do so by default.
If you have very few pages that you want to be viewable by anonymous users, a better option would be to whitelist only those pages. See $wgWhitelistRead.
For more customization, it would be easier to restrict viewing by namespaces rather than categories. See Extension:Lockdown (especially the warning at the top) or Extension talk:Lockdown/Archive 2/Flow export#h-Namespace_lockdown_doesn't_work_correctly_in_MW_1.31-2018-06-19T06:13:00.000Z. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 22:14, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. This sounds complicated.
Can you tell me, what exactly I have to do, that no guest can see any article on my wiki?
If so, how can I now make exceptions: that some articles can be read by a guest?
Sorry I'm newb and need easy steps. 84.137.169.209 (talk) 08:43, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
To prevent guests from viewing all articles, you'll want to create a private Wiki. For this, see Manual:Preventing access#Simple private wiki.
To allow viewing of some specific articles by guests add those pages to $wgWhitelistRead or $wgWhitelistReadRegexp.
The code lines mentioned in the above references are to be included in the LocalSettings.php file present in your Wiki's main folder.
For example,
## Private Wiki
# Disable reading by anonymous users
$wgGroupPermissions['*']['read'] = false;
# Disable anonymous editing
$wgGroupPermissions['*']['edit'] = false;
# Prevent new user registrations except by sysops
$wgGroupPermissions['*']['createaccount'] = false;
## Whitelisted pages
$wgWhitelistRead = array(
    "Main Page", "Foo", "Bar", "Foo Bar"
    );

I do this using Lockdown, combine this with white liststhis will allow you to "lock out" visitors and users at a pr. namespace level - all done in localsettings.php . You can also add a snip of code there to block visitors from going to special pages. AssetDenmark (talk) 10:07, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
This is the code I use to , sadly I did not make a note on where I found it:
function SpecialPageBlock(&$list)

   $allowedGroups = array(
       'sysop',

       'Search',
       'Preferences',
       'ChangePassword',
       'ChangeCredentials',
       'ResetPassword'
   );
   $allowed = false;
   $userGroups = $wgUser->getGroups();
   foreach($allowedGroups as $group)
   {
       if (in_array($group, $userGroups))
       {
           $allowed = true;
           break;

403 Forbidden access error

Hello guys

I have a working wiki on my computer, where I can access wiki pages and all.

However, when I try to access a page that has ":" in the name, I get an Error 403: Forbidden Access.

It is problematic because I would like to access the MediaWiki:Sidebar page to edit the sidebar.

Is there any way I can fix this?

From what I understand, it could be Apache that is keeping me from this page, but I don't understand why it would.

Thanks in advance 94.109.112.78 (talk) 22:18, 3 May 2019 (UTC)

Colon and 403 error is mentioned here: Manual:Short URL/Page title -- Windows & Apache without 403 on Special Pages.
Does that help? Jonathan3 (talk) 00:50, 6 May 2019 (UTC)

Skin seems to not take into account changes at Tempo.sking.php file

Hello guys, I have another question.

I am trying to edit the skin Tempo.skin.php, and change the content of it.

However, whatever I put in the file "Tempo.skin.php" doesn't change the behaviour of the skin on my mediawiki. If I delete half of the file, the skin remain unchanged on my mediawiki.

From my understanding, ti is from Tempo.skin.php that the skin is loaded and create the html of the webpage.

Why doesn't the skin change when I modify Tempo.skin.php?

Thanks a lot 94.109.112.78 (talk) 00:19, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

I know little about computers. My account was hacked by someone. It said my account was blocked because I had a proxy account. I do not know what that is. There were instructions to appeal on my talk page. I tried but that did not work. I could uses Wiki but not edit for about 3 days. I think the malware was cleaned by Norton. I just wanted to tell someone and I do not know if this is the right place or anything can be done to protect others.~ Eschoryii (talk) 02:15, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Feel free to link to your talk page where instructions were provided. It seems to be on a different website than mediawiki.org. Malyacko (talk) 22:36, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
It was English Wikipedia and nothing would allow an edit on my talk page either. If this is something that only happened to me, I'm fine with it. I certainly did nothing to be blocked and the block did not show up on my account. Thanks for your response. ~ Eschoryii (talk) 03:40, 5 May 2019 (UTC)

Amend Silly url abuse filters, and whitelist wikimedia urls

Currently abusefilters / spam tools have been added to block unregistered users from adding links to pages. It is clear that this was created to reduce vandalism, however, it is extreme that it even blocks urls to wikimedia foundation sites, including a unreasonably blocking self links to the wiki itself, e.g. https:// mediawiki.org . 197.235.63.81 (talk) 07:55, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

This wiki. 197.235.63.81 (talk) 08:56, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
I think I know what I going on. The problem is that the default link-spamming filter does not work for flow, and hence a clumsy workaround had to be worked out so that we could block spam on flow pages (such as this one). I'm now testing a slightly modified version which should not have this issue and will push it soon if it works. Thanks for reporting. Leaderboard (talk) 10:50, 5 May 2019 (UTC)

How to enable multiple space characters?

Hi, when I write an article and use the space character more than one time in a row, it will always be displayed as one space character.

How can I completely deactivate this automatic?

Thanks 84.137.169.209 (talk) 09:33, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

That's default HTML behavior and not MediaWiki specific so there is no way to deactivate. See for example using <code>&nbsp;</code> in HTML instead. Malyacko (talk) 22:34, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
What effect do you need to achieve? Jonathan3 (talk) 00:46, 6 May 2019 (UTC)

Problem when modifying Tempo.skin.php file

Hello guys

I am trying to customize the skin Tempo for my mediawiki

I modifier sucesfully the CSS of the skin. However, I would like to costumize also the php code of the skin, which I find in Tempo.skin.php.

But my problem is that when I modify the file, the changes are not taken into account by my browser, (but the changes to the CSS were taken) and the mediawiki isn't modified (other than the CSS)

Is there anything I am missing to make my browser look into the php file when putting a skin on my mediawiki?

Thanks in advance Nemael (talk) 22:51, 5 May 2019 (UTC)

Oaky, I found what the problem is.
I use Firefox to test out the skin, and it somehow keep the old php in cache.
I actually installed Google Chrome to try it, and Bam! All the changes were there.
Does anyone know how to empty that cache that firefox uses? Nemael (talk) 23:00, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
For MediaWiki, this might be what you need: Manual:$wgInvalidateCacheOnLocalSettingsChange
And for Firefox. Jonathan3 (talk) 00:38, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for this solution :)
Another way to make it work is to refresh the page with Ctrl + F5, it'll do a "hard refresh" of the page Nemael (talk) 00:42, 6 May 2019 (UTC)

MediaWiki 1.32.1, PHP 7.1.27 (litespeed), MySQL 5.6.43-cll-lve, more version info here.

Hi. I'm trying to get Template:Navbox to work on my wiki and can't quite: Everything shows up, but the formatting is broken---not just on Navbox, but on lots of imported templates. Here's a blatant example: compare this page on my wiki with the same page in MediaWiki. Note that the list of "Templates used on this page" is identical between the wikis.

Likely I've skipped a config step or failed to install something. I'd greatly appreciate being told what I'm doing wrong.

One note: I only yesterday upgraded to 1.32.1 from 1.26.X. So maybe something old in LocalSettings is doing it. Larrydberg (talk) 10:34, 6 May 2019 (UTC)

First set $wgUseInstantCommons to true, that should fix the *px red links.
Then, you need to include the relevant CSS rules from MediaWiki's MediaWiki:Gadget-site.css into your Wiki's MediaWiki:Common.css page. The relevant rules would be at-least the ones under the "Template:Navbox" section. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 13:53, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
Outstanding. My LocalSettings did indeed explicitly set $wgUseInstantCommons to false; wherefore, only God knoweth. Changing that and pulling in CSS from Gadget-site (I took it all, actually) fixed 90% of the problem. I never would have figured this out. A zillion thanks.
If you follow the links (repeated here and here for your convenience) you'll see that there's still something missing, no doubt some other CSS. Any idea where it might be? Something to do with ombox, maybe? Larrydberg (talk) 15:43, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
By-the-way, have you read the part Template:Navbox#Copying to other projects or wikis? AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 17:42, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
Yep, that was it. Grabbed all the ombox-related CSS from MediaWiki's MediaWiki:Common.css and it's now perfect. (Probably I should take *all* of Common.css.) All set now. Larrydberg (talk) 17:44, 6 May 2019 (UTC)

Fatal error in Special:Import after installing TemplateStyles

I'm currently trying to set up a mediawiki with the help of the bitnami stack virtual machine. So far everything is working, but now I'm trying to import Templates from Wikipedia. Especially Annotated_Image and Annotated_Image_4. When importing Annotated_Image_4 I get no errors but testing this, there is a lot of unformated text. When trying to import Annotated_Image I receive the error, that there is no content handler for sanitized css.

So I tried installing TemplateStyles but after this nothing can be imported anymore. I am trying to configure TemplateStyles but cannot find good documentation at the moment. CDeussen (talk) 14:11, 6 May 2019 (UTC)

Can someone explain how AuthManager can replace LDAPAuthentication?

It's not clear what configurations are needed for Authmanager. Can someone post their configs for LDAP authentication?

This page Manual:SessionManager and AuthManager says to set $wgSessionProviders & $wgAuthManagerConfig.

But for the $wgSessionProviders page, it says to configure like this.

$wgSessionProviders[MyCustomSessionProvider::class] = [

   'class' => MyCustomSessionProvider::class,

   'args' => [ 'dc1.acme.com' ],

];

Questions here:

Is "MyCustomSessionProvider" just a non-important name here or do I have to have something else that references MyCustomSessionProvider? If yes, what and where? There is little documentation on this.

The Link for $wgAuthManagerConfig is even worse, with zero information on it.

I just want to start with, where does one enter your AD / LDAP hostnames, whcih section?

Mass user deletion

Over the last year my website was raided by spambots. They have created hundereds of accounts that I wish to delete for good. There is a UserMerge extension that can merge all of the accounts into one, but that seems to be a very inefficient way of dealing with it, since there are hundereds of spambots. Is there a way to delete a lot of users at once? Deimos (talk) 11:13, 7 May 2019 (UTC)

Extension:BlockAndNuke can mass block spam accounts and delete all contributions made by those spam accounts, in just two clicks.
Also, Extension:Checkuser may be helpful, which can find the underlying IP and the interface can provide options to block a bundle of accounts from the same IP or an IP range. 94rain Talk 11:25, 7 May 2019 (UTC)
I see that BlockAndNuke only works for recent accounts. Unfortunatelly it does not really work for me, as the users are dated back to 2017. Also, all contribution has been deleted already by other extensions, I only want to delete the accounts. Deimos (talk) 11:39, 7 May 2019 (UTC)
Oh I did not read the question carefully...
I see that BlockAndNuke extension can be integrated with Extension:UserMerge to merge blocked accounts. But I do not know how it works exactly
Integration with Extension:UserMerge
If you have Extension:UserMerge installed, this blocked user's accounts will be merged with the user specified in $wgBaNSpamUser which, by default, is "Spammer". If you want this to work you will need to install code from here for UserMerge as the main branch of UserMerge does not have the necessary hooks in it.
94rain Talk 11:42, 7 May 2019 (UTC)
I tried to use it. Unfortunately, seems like this patch is long outdated. It needs to apply changes to the file UserMerge.php, but in UserMerge extension for MW1.32 there is no such file. As I remember, older version (namely 1.16 that I used) did use the starting file of extensions in that format, but no more. So its effectively useless :c

MediaWiki 1.32.1; PHP 7.1.27 (litespeed); MySQL 5.6.43-cll-lve; more version info here.

I've changed the destination of the logo link, not by changing MediaWiki:Mainpage but with a hook as described here. (Visit my main page and click the logo to see why I want to change logo destination but not main page.)

The tiny thing still suboptimal is the logo tooltip, which says "Visit the main page". Any way I can get my hands on that? Possibly this too can be done through the hook but I don't know enough of the internals to see how. Larrydberg (talk) 18:45, 7 May 2019 (UTC)

Edit MediaWiki:Tooltip-p-logo. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 02:56, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
Wow, that was easy, and moreover makes it easy to do the right thing in my multilingual wiki.
Of course I had found tooltip-p-logo in languages/i18n/*.json just by grepping, but I didn't realize that each of these message names was connected to a page in MediaWiki namespace. Editing it was weird: I got the message that the page doesn't yet exist, even though it was displaying the default string in the editing area! Maybe some of these pages spring into existence only when touched? I wasn't able to recreate that weirdness.
Anyway, many thanks for the complete solution. Larrydberg (talk) 11:23, 8 May 2019 (UTC)

openldap (DS-389) LDAP login to mediawiki on Centos 7 platform

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hi Folks,

I just created a CentOS 7 VM (release 7.6.1810) and successfully installed mediawiki. I did have to upgrade my php from 5.4 to 7.2 per the request of the software during configuration.

During the upgrade process, I was required to update php 5.4 to 7.2 and this was done successfully from the ius repository.

Per the page: Extension:LDAP Authentication/AD Configuration Examples I yum installed php72u-ldap:

[root]# !rpm

rpm -qa|grep php72u-ldap

php72u-ldap-7.2.17-1.ius.centos7.x86_64

Per the page: Special:ExtensionDistributor I downloaded the LdapAuthentication tar file and installed it using the command "tar -xzf LdapAuthentication-REL1_32-e2cab88.tar.gz -C /var/www/html/mediawiki/extensions" per instructions on the page https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:ExtensionDistributor?extdistname=LdapAuthentication&extdistversion=REL1_32

I've verified that the file /etc/php.d/20-ldap.ini has the ldap extension:

[root]# cat /etc/php.d/20-ldap.ini

; Enable ldap extension module

extension=ldap

and that the module loads:

[root]#   php -m |grep -i ldap

ldap

I've tried using the most simple LDAP configuration from the page : Extension:LdapAuth/Configuration#$wgLdapAuthMapGroups to see if I can at least hit my LDAP server.

I started a tcpdump: tcpdump port ldaps  -i ens3 -X -s 1024 and host 192.168.??.?? (edited for security) but it doesn't look like the mediawiki software ever sends a request to my server.

For my configuration in the LocalSettings.php file, I started with the following:

$wgLdapAuthServers = 'SERVER1,SERVER2,SERVER3';

$wgLdapAuthBindDN = 'MY_BIND_DN_HERE';

$wgLdapAuthBindPass = 'PASSWORD_FOR_BIND_DN';

where $wgLdapAuthServers = 'the ip of my ldap server'

$wgLdapAuthBindDN = 'cn=directory manager'

wgLdapAuthBindPass = 'my directory manager password'

I was hoping with this global/generic config, I'd at least see a reqest sent from my mediawiki server to my LDAP server but I don't see any traffic.

I should note that I did follow the page: Extension:LDAP Authentication/Requirements#Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Fedora and add certificat trusts.

I haven't been able to get the debug option to work. I can add the lines:

$wgLDAPDebug = 1;

$wgDebugLogGroups["ldap"] = "/var/tmp/debug.log"

But if I specify the variable $wgDebugLogGroups["ldap"] , the mediawiki page doesn't load.

I'm sure I'm missing the obvious but was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction.

Thanks, 128.138.64.30 (talk) 19:45, 8 May 2019 (UTC)

Update: Following the instructions on page Extension:LDAP Authentication/Examples#Example one for OpenLDAP I'm at least able to see authentication traffic on the network from the mediawiki server to my LDAP server.
I still can't get debugging working but it would be helpful to see what username/password are being sent. I don't see a username in the network traffic. 128.138.64.30 (talk) 20:31, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
Update: Ok.... following the info here: Extension talk:LDAP Authentication/2016#h-Automatic_account_creation_is_not_allowed-2016-12-01T12:47:00.000Z and here: Extension talk:LDAP Authentication/2017#h-How_to_fix_the_"Automatic_account_creation_is_not_allowed"_without_AuthManager_w-2017-07-09T16:23:00.000Z, I've logged into the mediawiki using ldap.
But I'm getting the following error:
Database error
A database query error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software.

Please set

$wgShowDBErrorBacktrace = true;
in your LocalSettings.php and try again. You should then receive a better error message.

Hi, thanks!
I did both these things. I then restarted the web service and all is working. The key was running the update.php and restarting httpd.

Template expansion

One year ago I created Wikis. One of them is still working without problems. (rietstapwiki.com)

I had to recreate another: burkewiki.com. It contains several thousand pages, all use a template.

This template is very similar to the one in rietstapwiki.com. The difference is the English language.

In the new Wiki the templates are not expanded. If I go and edit a page by introducing a space character

after the first line, the template gets expanded. I cannot believe that this space makes the difference.

Is it really necessary? 212.204.92.13 (talk) 14:53, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

I have to add: MediaWiki Version: 1.32.0 MySQL 5.7.25 PhP 7.1.23 212.204.92.13 (talk) 14:56, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
If I remove the space again, the template is still expanded. There must be a status difference between
the (generated) pages of the start and the "accepted" pages which result of introduction by hand or by
updating them. 212.204.92.13 (talk) 15:02, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
If I "edit" a page by pressing the Edit button and directy afterwards store it without any change the template gets expanded. 212.204.92.13 (talk) 15:08, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
If I search (by MediaWiki search) the invisible content it is found. On each of the not expanded pages the template is displayed in red color. 212.204.92.13 (talk) 15:20, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

Write permissions for personal page only

Hi,
Is it possible that a user only gets write permission for his personal page? And if so, can someone give me a hint what to define in the localconfig.php? 2003:DE:AF23:6100:DD20:A8A4:CCA2:21D1 (talk) 15:23, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
Yes. Solution exists. You need two extensions for it: Extension:AccessControl and Extension:Labeled Section Transclusion. User which want protect a your pages, must create own accesslist, with own username. Add tag with a name the accesslist into header page what he want do protect. Public content do write into chapter PUBLIC, which may be include over tag into another page for anonymous viewing. Want (talk) 17:19, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
The point is that students are not allowed to edit certain pages.
But their personal ones do. 95.91.237.237 (talk) 12:23, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
For example see here. Want (talk) 17:27, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
Manual:Preventing access#Restrict editing of all but a few pages might be the closest. Malyacko (talk) 15:53, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

How exactly are you trying to "remove the category, which isnt in the wikitext"?
From what I understand, a template was edited and a new category was added to that template, therefore, all the pages that used the template were also automatically added to the newly added category.
If so, pages can be removed from the template's category either by removing the category wikitext or when the category wikitext is included within and tags.
Note that you'll need to run runJobs.php for the category pages to show the changes. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 09:54, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

Visual Editor with newest Versions?

Hello!

I am trying to install VisualEditor on mediawiki regard to the offical page: Extension:VisualEditor an (in addition) the Parsoid installation:

Parsoid/Setup#Configuration after installed mediawiki Manual:Installing MediaWiki

It start with it three times on new debian machines, always the same error when the Visual Editor seems to start:

" ......apierror-visualeditor-docserver-http-error: http-request-error....."

I got no curl and no http error code, just if I want to try again.

My question are:

With the actual Edition of parsion (0.10), Visual Editor and Mediawiki and the installation steps in those articels - does VE work??

Or is anywhere a actual installation (with all the new versions debian, wiki, parsoid availible at this time) manual for this or is Visual Editor not longer working at all.

Therefore: Are there any alternatives to edit and creater pages on mediawiki easier then the standard editor? Shouldn´t it possible to create Sites with it wihtout knowing anything about html?

Thank you so much!

Thomas

Creating Categories in Columns

I have already defined the following extension in localsettings.php: wfLoadExtension( 'CategoryTree' );

What else do I have to do to display the categories in columns?

see example: http://mathespiele.zum.de/wiki/Kategorie:Einf%C3%BChrung 2003:DE:AF23:6100:ECED:4767:40E5:AF4D (talk) 16:42, 14 May 2019 (UTC)

You're using MediaWiki 1.21, which is unsupported and insecure. Maybe at that time, CategoryTree wasn't being displayed on category pages. This would be a good reason to upgrade your wiki Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:22, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

The Wiki version can be seen on the Wiki's Spezial:Version page. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 18:29, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

Migration of old Wiki from version 1.10.1 to SharePoint Online

During the course of performing some cleanup and shutting down old servers, we found out the hard way that one of our teams is still using a Wiki on a very old piece of hardware (that MUST go away) and we have been tasked with migrating the content to another Platform.
As this is literally my first project working with a Wiki, I'm hoping that some of the experts out there can weigh in and let me know;
1) Is it even possible to migrate content from a Wiki on version 1.10.1 to SharePoint online?
2) What methods/tools would you suggest we use to carry out the migration?
I've been doing quite a bit of research over the past few days and haven't come across much information that is truly helpful..
We're really just looking for some guidance/advice here. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks for your response, and yes, I'm referring to MediaWiki. Apologies for any confusion.
I'm not sure what you mean when you say "We don't know about SharePoint Online"??
Someone reached out to me regarding a Metalogix product that supposedly will do migrations from MediaWiki to SharePoint Online. That is the goal here.
I'm really just trying to understand if it is even possible to take the old MediaWiki site (with all of it's contents) and move it into a SharePoint environment?
Again, if anyone can provide some guidance or has experience with similar migrations, I'd love to know how you made that work.
Thanks again.
-Wes 208.184.224.241 (talk) 23:12, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
I provided a link with information how to export MediaWiki content. MediaWiki.org is not SharePoint Online. If you have questions about SharePoint Online's import skills or about something called "Metalogix" (whatever that is), you'll probably have to ask in a SharePoint Online support forum... Malyacko (talk) 10:22, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
When you write "Wiki", do you mean "MediaWiki"? We don't know about "SharePoint Online" so this might be a question for a "SharePoint Online" forum. See Help:Export for exporting MediaWiki content. Malyacko (talk) 22:58, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

Putting a front end to mediawiki

Hello folks!

I have a new server space up, and im wishing to put a 'front end' up with a couple of misc pages, and have the mediawiki part via a login page on this front end, so only folks with a approved account can see and post on the wiki.

I have the mediawiki on the space now, and i had a simple 1 page front up, but the installation nuked it on me.

note: i havent done a webpage like this for _years _, so assume i might need simple instructions ;) 59.102.96.215 (talk) 08:21, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

I guess you could use .htaccess. Jonathan3 (talk) 12:48, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
I think, you'll need to have your frontend page in your web facing folder (public_html / www), then your MediaWiki files inside a sub-directory (say a folder by the name of w).
Then in your frontend page, you'll need a link to direct the user towards the login page of your MediaWiki installation i.e. example.com/w/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 14:44, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

Installation for Newbies

Hello, MediaWiki. This site looks like what I've been searching for, as I wish to establish and maintain a wiki in this format.

Question: to proceed, do I [A] take a computer I'm not using and download and install it and maintain it there? or [B] can it be installed and maintained in a cloud ? ( or [C] WordPress ? ) 2602:304:B12B:9079:3C17:D1F8:225F:3161 (talk) 12:41, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

Both personal computer and cloud is possible. Wordpress is something else entirely, you can't run MediaWiki on Wordpress.
Cloud will always be online, others can get access to it but will cost. Personal computer will be almost free, private but a little hassle unless on Linux. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 14:34, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

Difference between "Content Pages" and "Pages"

i'm trying to get an accurate idea of how large my site is. Which description describes the pages that i've created?

Pages=12,505

i had an attack by bots early on, in theory, is the 11k discrepancy pages created by them? MarlaDaily (talk) 18:31, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

Not necessarily.
"Pages" are all the pages of the Wiki, while "Content pages" is a subset, counted according to the rules defined by $wgArticleCountMethod. For example, using default settings, templates will not be counted as content pages. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 22:53, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

wiki recovery

I've been using a raspberry pi to host a private wiki since 2014 (MediaWiki 1.19.20+dfsg-2.3), and recently the sqlite database file outgrew the veracrypt container on which it was stored. Fortunately, I made regular backups of the database file, but while the wiki works for a short period after swapping out the database file for a backup version, within a day or so it will start returning HTTP 500 errors. The database checker claims that is not corrupted, yet the problem persists until I swap out the database for a fresh copy (which then succumbs to the same fate).

I then tried a fresh install (MediaWiki 1.27.5) on a separate pi, but the newer version does not seem to recognize the old database file. I've tried updating the database file as well as the entire media wiki installation on the first pi, and these failed.

What would be the easiest way to get it running again? Pepsisformosa (talk) 19:29, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

Take a look at Manual:SQLite for requirements and installation. Try a new installation first to see if the installer detects support for sqlite database. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:26, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for taking the time to help.
I did a fresh install, and it detected support for sqlite database and works fine with the brand new database. The problem comes when I try to replace the new database with the old database (1.19.20+dfsg-2.3) that actually has all my data in it. When I do that and try to visit the wiki, I get this message: "A database query error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software."
When I try to update the table by visiting mediawiki/mw-config/ and running through the update process, it fails with this message:

Looks like a problem with the version of sqlite on your system. See the last message on this topic. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 10:59, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
I tried again using backports and installed sqlite version 3.27.2. It works when I allow it to make a new (empty) database, but when I point it to my old database and tell it to upgrade, it still fails.
The failure is different, at least. This time it never finishes upgrading and was still giving me the "busy" animation 6 hours later.

Looks like you're going a step back again? #flow-post-v0053a7f4bgyfhgc Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:31, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
I managed to port a wiki from 1.18 to 1.32 - i simply set up the new wiki as-is - and tried to set up everything up the same, installing the same extensions/namespaces etc.. After that I ran a export/import... and that seems to work nicely. (I did not see anything "lost"... yet. ) - you should do one or more backups of the "native" 1.32 Wiki along the way.
From what I read you try to "copy" the SQL files, but there could be all sorts of differences.... doing the export/import also allows you to "mess" a bit with the table names/prefix etc. You can - carefully - edit the export file to match a new prefix ( $wgDBprefix ). AssetDenmark (talk) 06:41, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
Ciencia,
I had to redo the installation and messed up the permissions in doing so. I'd consider that going "back a step" and fixing it to be bringing me back "forward" back to where we were before. :)
I did manage to upgrade my SQLite with backports, and now the "Version" page lists my SQLite version as "3.27.2 with full-text search support". So ignoring my permissions mistake, it looks like there's no change despite the upgraded SQLite.
AssetDenmark,
It looks like you're referring to MySQL databases as opposed to SQLite? I'm not aware of any MySQL "files" I could copy, and also not aware of any "export/import" function for SQLite databases. When I look up how to do the export/import I find only MySQL stuff, and the reason I went with SQLite in the first place was because I thought I could simply back up the database file (which had worked well until recently).
I did look into the installation settings and prefix things, and I'm not sure whether I understand correctly. The original installation was years ago and I can't remember the exact settings, but it seems that this information is all in the LocalSettings.php file, no? I did try using the original LocalSettings.php file with the appropriate changes, but the upgrade process doesn't seem to change based on this? I think the prefix should be the same in both cases, as I did not do anything differently there. 198.72.159.149 (talk) 19:39, 22 June 2019 (UTC)
Feel free to post your current error message, since now I'm lost as of what's the problem now Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 15:59, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, it got a little confusing with the extra permissions mistake thrown in there. Basically, I think the backports upgrade didn't change anything.

Rename an uploaded file

We are using a bot to upload image files to mediawiki commons and managed to upload a set of 50 images. We have uploaded files but unfortunately they are non descriptive like Images-GN14467.jpg. Now we are planning to rename those files- experts please suggest the right way to rename.

Should we upload the files again with new filename like "Tourist buses and MV Moonta, Kirton Point jetty, Port Lincoln (GN14467).jpg" and mark the old files as duplicate?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Htsa (talk) 01:37, 16 May 2019 (UTC)

This is about Wikimedia commons Policies, not "MediaWiki". Better ask at Commons:Commons:Help_desk (O Oh it is help desk not center...)
You can see the differences between these terms here: Differences between Wikipedia, Wikimedia, MediaWiki, and wiki 94rain Talk 02:19, 16 May 2019 (UTC)

To rename a file, I tried API:Move. I am getting " You do not have permission to move files. ". I need this permission to rename a my own descriptive file. Please help. Htsa (talk) 03:01, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
It needs "Movefile" permission. You can request for temporary permission at c:Commons:Requests_for_rights
Or, see commons:Commons:File_renaming, Find "rename request" at Preferences#gadgets and use the gadget to submit a request. 94rain Talk 03:07, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for the prompt response. I have submitted a permission request for Filemover in https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Requests_for_rights#Htsa
Please provide permissions to rename/move the files. Htsa (talk) 05:02, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
Please wait for local admin's response. And you have to point out that you only need the permission temporarily and only rename self-uploaded files. 94rain Talk 05:03, 16 May 2019 (UTC)

The custom MediaWiki:mwe-upwiz-license doesn't display

I have a problem, I've edited $wgUploadWizardConfig for to add new choices of licenses. But in the UploadWizard, when I am going to choose a custom license, the text shows something like this ⧼mwe-upwiz-license-wikimedia⧽ and the message MediaWiki that I'd created don't display.

For example, I've added this to $wgUploadWizardConfig:

        'licenses' => array(
		'wikimedia' => array(
			'msg' => 'mwe-upwiz-license-wikimedia',
			'templates' => array( 'Wikimedia' )
		),
		'other-wiki' => array(
			'msg' => 'mwe-upwiz-license-other-wiki',
			'templates' => array( 'Other wiki' )
		)
	),
        'licensing' => array(
        'ownWork' => array(
            'type' => 'or',
            'defaults' => 'cc-by-sa',
			'licenses' => array(
				'own',
				'public-domain',
				'cc-by-sa'
            )
		),
		'thirdParty' => array(
			'type' => 'or',
			'defaults' => 'none',
                        'template' => 'self', // this adds a link to Template:Licensing to the file info page
                        'licenseGroups' => array(
				array(
					'head' => 'mwe-upwiz-license-wiki-head',
					'licenses' => array(
						'wikimedia',
						'other-wiki'
					)
				)
                        )
		)
       )

In UploadWizard, the text is shown like this:

⧼mwe-upwiz-license-wiki⧽

  • ⧼mwe-upwiz-license-wikimedia⧽
  • ⧼mwe-upwiz-license-other-wiki⧽

What can I do? 181.55.114.245 (talk) 03:00, 16 May 2019 (UTC)

mwe-upwiz-license-wiki, mwe-upwiz-license-wikimedia and mwe-upwiz-license-other-wiki are supposed to be message keys. This means you need to create the pages MediaWiki:mwe-upwiz-license-wiki, MediaWiki:mwe-upwiz-license-wikimedia and MediaWiki:mwe-upwiz-license-other-wiki with the text you want to display. This will allow you to provide translations to users using other languages. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:22, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
Ciencia Al Poder, I've created that messages, but they don't display, the problem persist.
They keep appearing in the same way. 181.55.114.245 (talk) 06:56, 18 May 2019 (UTC)

On the "Special:Statistics" page, there is supposed to be a link to "Special:AllPages" with the name "Pages".

On my wiki, the "Special:AllPages" page exists, but instead of linking to it, the text for "Pages" is gray, plain text.

I want to fix this so that it links to the page properly. Yufko (talk) 12:24, 16 May 2019 (UTC)

What is your MediaWiki version and if the Wiki is public, can you provide a link for it? AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 16:15, 16 May 2019 (UTC)

Fetch Only Images from API

I am using API below

https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&generator=search&gsrnamespace=0%7C6&gsrsearch=Cocina+La+Ley&gsrlimit=10&prop=imageinfo&format=xml&gsroffset=0

If you browse through some pages you will notice pdf files.

I tried using filetype:bitmap parameter but in case of these API calls the order of images is not the same

Without bitmap parameter - https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&generator=search&gsrnamespace=0%7C6&gsrsearch=chase+%26+status&gsrlimit=10&prop=imageinfo&format=xml&gsroffset=0

With bitmap parameter - https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&generator=search&gsrnamespace=0%7C6&gsrsearch=chase+%26+status+filetype:bitmap&gsrlimit=10&prop=imageinfo&format=xml&gsroffset=0

As you can see in both API calls order of results is not same.

I want to fetch only png and jpg files from API and also maintain the order of relevance. If not in this API kindly let me know if there is similar API.

Thanks in advance Abhishek1491 (talk) 14:40, 16 May 2019 (UTC)

It may not be possible to do that in the api at all... In that case, the best you can do is to filter the file type on client-slide Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:19, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

Error when upgrading while shared database is set

and tags around headers remove their collapsibility on the mobile skin

Is there a way around this? An example can be seen here.

I ran into this issue while attempting to create a mobile version of a page with different elements shown on desktop and mobile with the nodesktop and nomobile classes. I wanted to separate different sections with collapsed headers on mobile so that readers could expand whichever section they wanted to read, but found that the headers were not collapsible anymore. Jaywye (talk) 06:08, 18 May 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply. Is there a reason why a collapsible mobile heading becomes uncollapsible when surrounded by <div>, <span>, or any other tags/attributes? https://i.imgur.com/vtznslm.png Jaywye (talk) 09:50, 18 May 2019 (UTC)
Probably a bug. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 10:38, 18 May 2019 (UTC)
Such things break the section detection. (A header creates an 'implied' section, but if you start wrapping things, the implied sections no longer work and you are left with just the headings). —TheDJ (Not WMF) (talkcontribs) 10:28, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

Hello all I just upgraded to 1.32 after many years. A bit of a struggle but mostly there. One problem: to link to a subdirectory we use "[[/". This works on Wikipedia however seems to have failed in the upgrade. See here

http://www.logicmuseum.com/wiki/Authors/Boethius

The redlinks are to working directories and they go blue if the full path supplied.

Any help gratefully appreciated. Peter Damian (talk) 07:50, 18 May 2019 (UTC)

Nvm I worked it out!

Invalid title

I have redirected from http to https, and has stopped working url without https://www, discussing and redirecting.

When I enter redirect - https://www.example.com ... it's okay, but when I enter www.example.com or example.com, it writes an error - Invalid title - The requested page title contains invalid characters: "%C3".

This is just the case for side pages (e.g. - discussion, redirect, history ...)

Will anyone advise me? Where is the problem?

Hello, after update to MW 1.32.1 (Windows Server 2008 R2, PHP 7.1.14, MariaDB 5.5.5-10.3.14) it is not possible to upload image through interface of Visual Editor. The dialog returns a strange error after click "Upload".

Could not store upload in the stash (UploadStashFileException): "Could not store file "D:\Wiki\Dev/App_Data/temp/chunkedupload_cb59cde85454" at "mwstore://local-backend/local-temp/2/29/20190520131613!chunkedupload_cb59cde85454.".".

However, it is possible to upload file through Special:Upload page.

Any idea ?

Showing a complete table of contents (categories and pages)

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hello,

on my wiki pages, I used the extension "NiceCategoryList2" to get a complete TOC on my starting page, as you can see here:

http://www.psych-med.de/wiki/index.php?title=Hauptseite

Unfortunately, the extension isn't maintained anymore, so I need an alternative after updating.

I tried "categorytree" and "DynamicPageList3" but wasn't able to get the same result (categories as headings, subpages as links).

For "DynamicPageList3" I studied the manual but didn't find a support page or forum to ask.

Can anyone tell me if or how I can get a complete table of contents on a wiki-page?

Thank you! Grmblfx5 (talk) 14:16, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

I'm pretty certain this would be possible with DPL3 - I need to do something similar and if I manage it I'll add a message here. Jonathan3 (talk) 22:31, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
Just read your comments on your other topic. It's definitely possible to use recursion in DPL3 to display the category/page structure from a named top category (or alternatively to use separate sub-templates/queries for whatever level you want to go down to). I've got this working but it is similar to CategoryTree in that it displays the categories as links too, which is not what you want. I hope it will be possible to add some sort of "if" statement in the middle of the DPL3 query to show the categories as text (maybe even headings) rather than links. Maybe wishful thinking. Jonathan3 (talk) 22:39, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
Hi Jonathan,
thank you for your encouragement. I'm also quite sure that it must be possible, but didn't get it working so far. I tried different statements, but only the pages of the top category are shown in a rather unclear way. If you can manage it, I would be very happy for a solution.
Unfortunately, there's no support from the authors or other users of the extension, at least I couldn't find one.

188.99.221.120 (talk) 10:17, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
...and can you post/show me your query using recursion? 188.99.221.120 (talk) 13:59, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
The perfect is the enemy of the good, so here are a couple of links rather than a proper explanation:
What I currently have is based on the non-recursive templates (though still what the DPL3 page seems to call "DPL recursion") on the second link (without using the Treeview extension). Jonathan3 (talk) 00:23, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Hi Jonathan,
I tried a lot of things, but didn't get in the near of what I want.
Here's what I use at the moment:

Do you (or any other) have any hints for showing a complete TOC or at least a recursive list of categories/sites?
Thanks!

Grmblfx5 (talk) 14:43, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
Have a go at the following. I haven't got round to changing the category names to un-linked text (in the meantime, I have the category pages redirect to one of their content pages). I don't think I've tested it completely but it should be good enough to start off with.
{{create tree|{}}}
Template:Create tree
<includeonly>{{#dpl:
|debug=1
|category={}
|redirects=include
|skipthispage=no
|eliminate = all
|format=,*%TITLE%,\n²{Create tree sub¦%TITLE%}²,
}}</includeonly>
Template:Create tree sub
<includeonly>{{#dpl:
|debug=1
|category={}
|redirects=include
|skipthispage=no
|eliminate = all
|format=,**%TITLE%,\n²{Create tree sub sub¦%TITLE%}²,
}}</includeonly>
Template:Create tree sub sub
<includeonly>{{#dpl:
|debug=1
|category={}
|redirects=include
|skipthispage=no
|eliminate = all
|format=,***%TITLE%,\n,

Fatal exception of type "Error" on preview

Hello, we've just migrated the data from an old version of Mediawiki / an unsupported OS platform to MediaWIki 1.32.0 / running on PHP 7.0 on Ubuntu 16.04. The migrate was done by building a new platform, copying the SQL data (and image files) from the old system and making minimum necessary changes to the new plarform's configuration file. The data import worked fine, migration script (php /usr/share/mediawiki/maintenance/update.php) completed without error, wiki 'mostly' works. The only error is as in the subject when attempting to preview a change (or actually, preview itself, you don't need to change anything, just ask for a preview). These fail with message of the form:

[04f796e3b179a4cdf7946122] 2019-05-20 15:11:35: Fatal exception of type "Error"

with a different number in the square brackets and time stamp.

The web server (nginx 1.16.0) records error messages of the form below, one error message for each attempt to preview:

2019/05/20 15:24:06 [error] 18426#18426: *8136 FastCGI sent in stderr: "PHP message: PHP Notice:  Undefined property: CKeditorEditPage::$isCssJsSubpage in /usr/share/mediawiki/extensions/WYSIWYG-src/WYSIWYG/CKeditorEditPage.body.php on line 35" while reading response header from upstream, client: [redacted], server: [redacted].com, request: "POST /index.php?title=Category:Sysadmin&action=submit HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://unix:/var/run/php/php7.0-fpm.sock:", host: "[redacted].com", referrer: "https://[redacted].com/index.php?title=Category:Sysadmin&action=edit"

where I've removed the external address of the site and the server name and replaced then with [redacted] instead.

Saving changes *without* preview works fine, the saved pages are rendered correctly. WIth preview it consistently fails with the error message. Matt-at-Penman (talk) 15:36, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

See Manual:How to debug how to get a stacktrace for the fatal exception. Might be the WYSIWYG extension which is not very maintained, see Extension:WYSIWYG. Malyacko (talk) 15:49, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for that, yes, does look like the issue is in WYSIWYG. Below is what is output on the GUI once the debug and stack trace are turned on and I try to preview a page.

Interesting, it looks like wfRunHooks is a deprecated function as of the version this system was built with but is still being called by WYSIWYG... the file identified in the stack trace above at line 36 has
"wfRunHooks( 'EditPageBeforePreviewText', array( &$this, $this->previewOnOpen() ) );
so it appears not to be compatible with the latest MediaWiki version. It's also got at least one other occurrence of wfRunHooks in it.
And testing... it appears that by replacing wfRunHooks at lines 36 and 38 in the referenced file by Hooks::run the issue is resolved... previews work again. Probably would benefit from being fitted into WYSIWYG code... Matt-at-Penman (talk) 11:07, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

Forgot to backup a database before an update, now getting errors. Anything I can do?

Hello!

I've been running a wiki install for about two years now and I haven't backed it up at all in those years. What I "thought" was backing it up was not, and now I'm paying the consequences of my actions. I upgraded from 1.29 to 1.31.1 and I've been getting this error whenever I tried upgrading or downgrading.

Error: 1091 Can't DROP 'ct_rc_id'; check that column/key exists (localhost)

All the solutions I found referenced using backups to fix the problem, which I cannot do. Is there anything else I can do to solve this issue? if not, I've been thinking about exporting all of my pages, making a clean install and importing the .xml file and re-uploading images manually

Edit: Not really a tech guy so I'm a bit out of my element, but if I need to post some more technical information, let me know.

This is apparently the same problem as Project:Support desk/Flow/2018/09#h-Database_errors-2018-09-13T20:35:00.000Z.
Since it's trying to run a script, that attempts to do several changes, if one of them fails the entire update fails.
The file it's trying to run is patch-change_tag-indexes.sql.
As a workaround, you can try to edit the patch-change_tag-indexes.sql file and remove the first sentence and execute the upgrade script again. If it fails on the next one, delete it and do that over and over again until the file is empty and the upgrade script continues.
Note that you can't downgrade MediaWiki once you've (started) upgraded the database with the update.php script! Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:30, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply! Your method worked like a charm, thanks!
I saw that thread beforehand, but even though the error message was the same, our problems were different. I think at least, since I was able to save and create pages just fine.
Thanks again for your help. I appreciate it. SupermanFan97 (talk) 02:27, 22 May 2019 (UTC)

Hey guys,

I just spent the day trying to upgrade my mediawiki from 1.27 to 1.32, and after a ton of troubleshooting I'm now stuck. I had to upgrade my server to use PHP 7.2, force my ssh to do likewise by calling the binary files because it was stuck using version 4.something, but it seems like the server itself is using the right PHP version, although when I try to load mydomain.com/mw-config/index.php it doesn't seem to have any styling or functionality, almost as if the php isn't working properly, and when I try to load most of the main pages I get this error:

Add custom html menu on top of the page, and padding down content.

Hello,

I'm trying to find a way to add a custom html menu to the top of the page, which in result will pad down everything else in the page. What are the files I should edit?

It should look something like this (image from similar thread on SO):

I've tried in vectortemplate.php, but it keeps adding the content under main page.

Video extension

I am using Media Wiki 1.32.1. I would like to include a video in mp4 format.
Can someone tell me which extension I need?
What are your experiences? 2003:DE:AF23:6100:4164:2072:556B:5ED8 (talk) 21:21, 22 May 2019 (UTC)
My experience is very limited as it been few days ago I've been using or joined Wikipedia. Victwana (talk) 01:39, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
Extension:TimedMediaHandler. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 22:44, 22 May 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for the tip. But when I add the extension to the localSettings.php
wfLoadExtension( 'TimedMediaHandler' );
I can't reach my side anymore. The wiki website is then white. 2003:DE:AF23:6100:84CB:6414:DFA1:A917 (talk) 08:04, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
See Manual:Errors and symptoms#You see a Blank Page. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 08:44, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
Can somebody give me a hint on what I can do?
Would like to use the TimedMediaHandler extension.
I get the following message in my browser:

You could post version information for TimedMediaHandler and you could post a complete stacktrace (your last post is just a small part of the stacktrace) with line breaks. Malyacko (talk) 10:21, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
Sorry about that. Here is the complete message

My previous comment asked for version information for TimedMediaHandler and a complete stacktrace (having every line end in "..." is not a complete stacktrace), but anyway: /var/www/vhosts/hosting.netcup.net/httpdocs/wiki/extensions/TimedMediaHandler/extension.json does not exist!
So you have to find out why it does not exist. And explain how exactly you install TimedMediaHandler. Malyacko (talk) 11:35, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
From where exactly did you download the Extension:TimedMediaHandler files (or maybe you didn't)?
What is the version of your MediaWiki?
Can you provide a link to your Wiki? AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 11:47, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
During the installation of the TimedMediaHandler in the LocalSettings.php the directory wiki/extensions/
the TimedMediaHandler extension or folder is not created. 2003:DE:AF23:6100:E0C8:4FCE:B5BB:E074 (talk) 11:48, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
I defined the extension in Localsettings.php as follows: wfLoadExtension( 'TimedMediaHandler' );
The version of the Media Wiki is 1.32.1 2003:DE:AF23:6100:E0C8:4FCE:B5BB:E074 (talk) 11:51, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

Okay, that worked. Great. The Wiki page is available again. I also did an update. What I unfortunately noticed. If I want to upload a video (about 20 MB) mp4, then I get the following message: [55fbb821de0d3c8f870f2623] 2019-05-23 14:30:20: Fatal exception error of type "Error  Corraggiouno (talk) 14:33, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

and then perform the same actions which led to the fatal error. This should provide a more detailed error description. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 17:43, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

That's the stack trace but not the error message. The extension may be missing the id3 library, that you need to get with composer.
Inside the TimedMediaHandler extension directory, run:
composer install --no-dev Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:20, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
I don't have SSH access. But I have the alternative via
{
   "extra": {
       "merge-plugin": {
           "include": [
               "extensions/TimedMediaHandler/composer.json"
           ]
       }
   }
}
Added to the DAtei composer.json. Unfortunately I still get the error message
extensions/TimedMediaHandler/includes/handlers/ID3Handler/ID3Handler.php: Class 'getID3' not found Corraggiouno (talk) 16:51, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
Without running composer, adding that line won't do anything...
You can download the TimedMediaHandler folder to your PC, run composer locally to get the id3 library, and upload it again to the server Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 17:02, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
Thank you. What else do I need (I have a PC with Windows) so that I can even use the command
composer install --no-dev
can execute? Corraggiouno (talk) 20:08, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
Read the docs: Composer Malyacko (talk) 00:09, 25 May 2019 (UTC)

I just looked on the server (ftp) and the folder "filebackend" is missing.
What can I do to get this folder back and that the error message from above is no longer displayed? Corraggiouno (talk) 10:16, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
The file and folder are there on MediaWiki 1.32: includes/filebackend/FileBackendGroup.php.
Either you removed a folder in error, or there's some suspicious activity on your server that's deleting random folders...
I'd download MediaWiki 1.32 again from the official repositories and replace all the files with that. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 10:34, 26 May 2019 (UTC)

Include a table in a template

I'm not sure if I should ask this in the talk page of the related subject or here as I saw a warning trying to add a topic there. So I'm posting here.

I have a template and I'm trying to include a table in it

{{BASEPAGENAME/bubble | content = {  my cell -  my cell } }} (Wrong formatting I don't know how to fix it)

But the result is the 'bubble' with raw wikitext in it. Any idea what could cause this and how I can fix it? :) Cheers! Extarys (talk) 00:41, 25 May 2019 (UTC)

What about just sending |mycell1=...|mycell2=... and having the table wikitext in the template itself? Jonathan3 (talk) 06:38, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
What you are saying is that it's impossible? :(
I could create a second template based on the first one for this purpose... I'll investigate, thanks for the idea. Extarys (talk) 19:45, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
I'm not saying it's impossible - I don't know - just that I'd probably do it differently :-) Jonathan3 (talk) 22:11, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
Table definitions need to start on a new line, add a new line to your content parameter. 110.145.60.136 (talk) 23:38, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
I see (from clicking "edit") that you do have line returns. Maybe it's a problem with sending the initial and final single curly brackets - maybe use an equivalent to the which you are using for sending the | character? Or maybe try sending the table using HTML instead of wikitext? I haven't time to try this so sorry if it wastes yours :-) Jonathan3 (talk) 23:36, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

A few Errors that I can't resolve after upgrade to 1.32

Hello,

MediaWiki - 1.32 (installed from 1.25)

php - 7.2

mysql - 5.5

http://tekpercussion.com

I been reading for a few hours to resolve some of my issues with my upgrade to 1.32 from 1.25. I have edited the LocalSettings to show more details on the errors and was able to disable some of the extensions that were causing errors. I am still unable to fix the following:

Deprecated: Use of Using $ceAllowConfirmedEmail is deprecated, please migrate to $wgAllowConfirmedEmail as a replacement. is deprecated. [Called from require_once in /homepages/26/d386183563/htdocs/mediawiki/includes/Setup.php at line 938] in /homepages/26/d386183563/htdocs/mediawiki/includes/debug/MWDebug.php on line 309

I can't seem to figure out what migrate to $wgAllowConfirmedEmail means or how to do this?

The warning, I can't figure out what this is about either?

Another issue on the site is that I get the following error when I click on the Specials pages (many other errors are now appearing on the top as well)

I would greatly appreciate any help to get these error fixed and the site back to normal. Thank you so much! Tfreezer (talk) 04:14, 25 May 2019 (UTC)

Update: I tried to edit a page and was having a fatal error, dealing with QuestyCaptcha. I was able to update the code in LocalSettings and it fixed the issue. I was able to edit pages now. Also it removed the first error I mentioned above (AllowConfirmedEmail). The only error that pops up on all of the pages now is the Warning Html.... error as stated above. Also the Special Pages is still very much not working as well.
I will keep at it! Tfreezer (talk) 05:11, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
It seems that the exception is brought by UserAdmin extension. As you see, the extension just support MediaWiki 1.16.x - 1.19.x, that means this extension is not compatible with MW 1.32. The error messages say Call to undefined function wfMsg(), wfMsg() function was removed in 1.27 (deprecated since 1.18).
You should remove this extension or replace it with an extension with the same feature. 星耀晨曦 (talk) 07:51, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
Thank you very much. This fixed the issue of being able to get the special pages working. Greatly appreciated.
Any thoughts on the other Warning: Html::inlineScript: Illegal character sequence... error?
I am wondering if i should just use a fresh 1.32 localsetting.php file and just copy over extensions one by one from my old file to see if it works... is that a good or bad idea... and how could i get a clean localsetting file for 1.32?
Thank you Tfreezer (talk) 14:25, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
The template for LocalSettings.php is here. 星耀晨曦 (talk) 14:30, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
But it may not be the cause of the warning. Can you explain the reproduce steps? 星耀晨曦 (talk) 14:36, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
the warning simply appears at the top of the wiki when I go to the site. you are welcome to view it. http://tekpercussion.com
(its kinda hard to read on the site) but here is what the warning says:
Warning: Html::inlineScript: Illegal character sequence found in inline script. [Called from Html::inlineScript in /homepages/26/d386183563/htdocs/mediawiki/includes/Html.php at line 578] in /homepages/26/d386183563/htdocs/mediawiki/includes/debug/MWDebug.php on line 309 Tfreezer (talk) 17:37, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
FYI, if the javascript that will be output contain the sequence <script or </script, the warning will be trigger. But I don't know where these wrong javascript came from, I am not familiar with this aspect. 星耀晨曦 (talk) 18:00, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
Of course, you can choose to set display_errors in php.ini to off to prevent error messages from being sent to client. 星耀晨曦 (talk) 18:10, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for the help you have given so far, I really appreciate it!!!
I have been looking for the php.ini file for a while now and can't seem to locate it.
Regarding the javascript: I am not sure either... It doesn't seem to be affecting the functionality at this point. Are there any maintenance programs I can run to maybe solve this problem? Tfreezer (talk) 18:46, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
> I have been looking for the php.ini file for a while now and can't seem to locate it.
If you can access shell and put php executable file to $PATH, execute php --ini, the output will prompt the location of php.ini. if you can't access shell or can't find php executable file, put
<?php
phpinfo();
to a new file and upload to website then access it via browser.
> Are there any maintenance programs I can run to maybe solve this problem?
This cannot be fixed by the maintenance script. My guess the JS code comes from an extension. You can try to disable the extensions that are not maintained by WMF to rule out the possibility. 星耀晨曦 (talk) 18:55, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
ok I can try and systematically remove extensions.. to see if that comes up with anything.
Regarding the php.ini. I ran that file and it shows me a location... /etc/php7.2/php.ini - would this be located on my hosting company's side as I am unable to find it in the mediawiki folders? Thank you again for all your help! Tfreezer (talk) 19:26, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
> a location... /etc/php7.2/php.ini - would this be located on my hosting company's side as I am unable to find it in the mediawiki folders?
This is expected. php.ini is PHP config file, that is not a part of MediaWiki. 星耀晨曦 (talk) 19:33, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
So I found the issue!... yay!!! it was an extension that was causing the problem... was an old one called MultiMediaPlayer. Thank you so much for your help! I really appreciate it.
I know this last question isn't an error persay, but I used to have all of my Category pages in 3 columns, now they are defaulting back to a single column. Can you direct me on which file to edit. Ive looked Help:Categories#Sort key and Help:Sorting but it doesnt seem to answer this question (that I can tell)

About the MediaWiki image options

Hello, I'm the one who's using the MediaWiki.

The design that I want is a shape that you can see with a frame or thumbnail option. The one that the box surrounds the painting.

The thumbnail option gives me a satisfactory shape, but it puts a strain on hard capacity by creating a new size image file. (If this is wrong, let me know.)

So I want to be able to resize the image in the frame option, or I want to have another option. What I want is not to create a new size image, but simply to resize the original image. This includes the design I mentioned earlier.

Please answer. 221.162.185.233 (talk) 20:51, 25 May 2019 (UTC)

See Manual:$wgUseImageResize how to change the new size image files behavior.
No idea what exactly your question about "design" is and what you mean by "design". Malyacko (talk) 15:02, 26 May 2019 (UTC)

InstantCommons problem

Hello, I have found that loading speed when reading some specific documents using the MediaWiki is slower than other documents.

I checked the commonality of slow loading documents to see what's wrong with them, and I found that I used InstantComons to insert files from Wikipedia Commons.

I'd like to know what caused this case. 49.251.36.216 (talk) 21:59, 25 May 2019 (UTC)

When I had this problem some years ago and digged into it, found that InstantCommons performs the image checks sequentially which, when you are using many images, is slow and user noticeable (specially taking into account that you are performing remote connection). can a template count what order it is in a page?

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Is there a way for a template to count how many copies of itself are above it in the page? It'd be interested to have an 'auto vaue' in v:template:fig that works out the |number=parameter automatically.

Outside of Wikimedia Foundation Wikis, there is Extension:Variables. AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 05:20, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
Wow, the phabricator discussions got pretty heated on that. Is it some specific issue with Extension:Variables, or some general issue with any similar functionality? T.Shafee(EvoEvo)talk 05:35, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
Apparently, this sort of auto-numbering can be achieved with just CSS: https://css-tricks.com/numbering-in-style/ Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:25, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
@Ciencia Al Poder: Very interesting! Do you know if that sort of css is possible within mediawiki? T.Shafee(EvoEvo)talk 01:48, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
Yes,you can add CSS rules as described in Manual:Interface/Stylesheets Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 16:44, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
I think I'm missing something. I've attempted to do a simple css subpage in my sandbox but I cant seem to get it to register the css.
Is there an obvious error? T.Shafee(EvoEvo)talk 06:43, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
This is way utilizing TemplateStyles. You can also add to site CSS (see above) or to your CSS (if may be visible only for you). wargo (talk) 07:50, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
Thank you. It seems to be getting there. I'm getting an error about sanitized css though:
Page User:Evolution and evolvability/sandbox/styles.css must have content model "Sanitized CSS" for TemplateStyles (current model is "CSS").
Is there a way to tell which part is unsanitary? T.Shafee(EvoEvo)talk 08:17, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
Admin need to change "content model" from CSS to Sanitized CSS. wargo (talk) 09:17, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
Maybe the "Sanitized CSS" content model is only applicable for CSS under the template namespace and not the user namespace. If that's the problem, that's terrible for testing and should probably be reported as a bug. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:18, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
No. It is just not default. It can be changed by administrator in any namespace. wargo (talk) 07:26, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
I think you're correct about the namespace. I've made a test set in wikiversity template space and it seems to be working.
Thank you so much for the help! T.Shafee(EvoEvo)talk 11:20, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Categories aren't populated after XML import, refreshLinks, and runJobs

I've read Project:Support desk/Flow/2018/12#h-XML_import_not_populating_categories-MediaWiki_1.31_internal_error-2018-12-21T09:50:00.000Z. I'm running MW 1.31.1, PHP 7.2, Apache2 with APCu.

If I import a large number of XML-exported pages via Special:Import, the categories for those pages aren't populated until I edit and save a new revision on each page, or run a bot to touch each page without revising them.

Project:Support desk/Flow/2018/12#h-XML_import_not_populating_categories-MediaWiki_1.31_internal_error-2018-12-21T09:50:00.000Z strongly suggests this is a symptom of the job queue not having been run, but I've got the runJobs.php maintenance task running every 30 seconds. The topic also suggests running refreshLinks.php to force reparsing the page; this also does not work.

Are there any other options that don't require running a bot across all of the imported pages after each import? PFWOz (talk) 07:17, 27 May 2019 (UTC)

refreshLinks.php should work. If it doesn't, then there's a job queue problem, maybe caused by a misbehaving extension that crashes when the LinksUpdate jobs are run or inserted on the job queue.
Enable the display of PHP errors and add logs for errors and exceptions, as explained in Manual:How_to_debug Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:22, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
This is on a stock tarball install of 1.31.1 so no added extensions. Debug logging did not log crashes or errors, the imported pages simply are not being queued until touched. I've abandoned the project as a result but will revisit if I try again and file a bug if this behavior persists. PFWOz (talk) 16:19, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

I am in the process of purchasing one of your Breville Smart Convection ovens. However, I would like to know if I can use stainless steel pans or other kinds of plates in the oven? Failed to parse (MathML with SVG or PNG fallback : Invalid response ("Math extension cannot connect to Restbase.") from server "https://en.wikipedia.org/api/rest_v1/":): {\displaystyle (a+b)^2=a^2+b^2+2ab}

HI,

After we upgrade MediaWiki 1.30.0 to latest LTS version of MediaWiki 1.31.1. We fell into math rending issue with following ERROR.

"Failed to parse (MathML with SVG or PNG fallback (recommended for modern browsers and accessibility tools): Invalid response ("Math extension cannot connect to Restbase.") from server "https://en.wikipedia.org/api/rest_v1/":): {\displaystyle (a+b)^2=a^2+b^2+2ab}"

I have checked that we are getting the PNG(680e5ed23df897dbdd0502298a168b91.png) under /data/www/html/wiki/images/math after I ran following command in shell. But, still we are getting above math rendering Error on page.

./texvc /data/www/html/wiki/images/tmp /data/www/html/wiki/images/math "(a+b)^2=a^2+b^2+2ab" iso-8859-1 "rgb 1.0 1.0 1.0"

From the Math Extension Installation Guide it's mentioned that now we need to install mathoid for MediaWiki >= 1.31

We did not install mathoid earlier in our RHEL7 server. So please help us with the complete installation & configuration of mathoid.

Thanks in Adv,

could you let know why we need these additional Mathoid server installation required since earlier MediaWiki 1.30.0 version is just working fine with Math/LaTex render to PNG. Sanjay (talk) 11:29, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

Cannot access the database: :real_connect(): (HY000/2002): No such file or directory.

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to move a legacy install of MediaWiki from a dead server to a new one.

I have exported my old postgres Database, reimported on the new server, and installed MediaWiki 1.32.0

I'm having trouble to connect to the database, during install I'm using :

Database Type : MariaDB, MySQL, or compatible

Database Host : Localhost

Database name : wikidb (an empty DB I created for testing)

Database table prefix : *left empty*

Database username: wikiuser

Database password : password

Wich throw back this error :

Cannot access the database: :real_connect(): (HY000/2002): No such file or directory.

I've create the testing DB + User as suggested in MediaWiki doc :

CREATE USER wikiuser WITH NOCREATEDB NOCREATEROLE NOSUPERUSER ENCRYPTED PASSWORD 'password'; CREATE DATABASE wikidb WITH OWNER wikiuser;

I'm having trouble troubleshooting this, any help would be appreciated, while I continue to poke around.

Many thanks !

Maybe I'm thinking it's too simple, but is your web hosting software's database module (e.g. MySQL) turned on? For example, if you're using XAMPP (v3.2.4 is what I use as of this writing), in the Control Panel, there is the option to "Start" your MySQL. If it's not running, you won't be able to set up your DB. 174.56.68.128 (talk) 16:49, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

Categories are not updated except using rebuildall.php script

I have the same problem as others with the categories, when I assign a category to a page, it is assigned well, but in the category page it indicates that there is no page. Pass with all categories. I am using version 1.32.1 under PHP 7.3.

I have tried with runjobs.php but it does nothing, the categories remain empty.

I have set the command $wgRunJobsAsync = False in LocalSettings.php and nothing, there is no way that the categories appear.

Only by running rebuildall.php all the categories appear correctly.

I've been reading and testing everything for days and I can not get the categories out automatically, the only way is with rebuildall.

Some solution to try. ToniBC78 (talk) 12:55, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

I had a similar problem (with MW 1.31) and updating Extension:Cargo the running Manual:rebuildall.php solved it. The difference as that rebuildapp.php gave an error message identifying the (old version of the) extension as the problem. But I guess it could be a problem with some other extension which you have. Maybe disable them and see if it works. Jonathan3 (talk) 23:39, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

How can we get these links to use the title listed in the link?

This is not something that can be done currently in MediaWiki core.
Looks like you're using Extension:Display Title. If that's not expected, I'd suggest uninstalling the extension, or open a bug to that extension. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:26, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

ImageMap Error

I am trying to install GraphViz, but it is requiring that the ImageMap extension be downloaded as well. I downloaded the file and placed it in the extensions folder named ImageMap, and added the wfLoadtExtension in localsettings. I go to my wiki's version and it appears that it all downloaded correctly. However, when I go to update the composer later on I get a blaring error:

Command.php: proc_open() returned error

I am attempting to install MediaWiki 1.32.1 (also tried with 1.32.0 and 1.31.1). I have access to server with PHP 7.3, only via FTP, no ssh.

I run installation process and on the next step after selecting languages I get the following error:

"/bajka/mw-config/index.php?page=Welcome MediaWiki\ProcOpenError from line 380 of /home/users/ink/www/bajka/includes/shell/Command.php: proc_open() returned error!"

I was sure this was a common issue, but surprisingly I could not google the exact error message anywhere in connection to MediaWiki (only issues with proc_open() disabled). Is this a server configuration issue (not much flexibility there with my hosting provider) or is there another cause of this problem? Is there anything I can on my side to fix this? 195.189.85.63 (talk) 10:29, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

Your hosting probably has limited the access to proc_open() functions (that's usually the case on cheap shared hosts). Check if your hosting allows proc_open Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:37, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

LocalSettings.php Not Found after upgrading MediaWiki 1.32 on Fedora

(Scarcely a new topic, but I don't seem to be able to add to previous posts)

I am upgrading to 1.32.1 on Fedora 30, having done a fresh install on a new server, but using the (upgraded) database from the previous version, 1.26 of F24. I have the LocalSettings.php file in my wiki folder, in my case /var/www/wiki, alongside index.php etc. After running through all the previous answers to this problem, checking permissions, SELinux, etc, I tracked the call to LocalSettings to includes/WebStart.php, and found it was looking for it in the install dir, /usr/share/mediawiki. I added a soft link there back to the "proper" LocalSettings.php and all was fine.

So I don't really have a question, except "Is this how it should work ?" - I rather gather not - and I thought I should pass on the experience.

John 182.239.180.188 (talk) 22:28, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

That's probably a problem on Fedora package.
MediaWiki is usually placed directly on the web server root and not on a totally unrelated folder. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:33, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
John - thank you for your post. I had the same issue, upgrading from Fedora 29/ MediaWiki 1.29 to F30 and MW 1.32.1. Installed at the root - /var/www/html. Your softlink idea fixed the issue for me as well. I have no idea if that is how it is supposed to be, but I read this will cause issues with people that run multiple wiki's on the same server. 2601:18A:C401:307C:5EEB:B79F:F84A:B998 (talk) 18:32, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
It seems that the problem is caused by the change in the following statements in includes/WebStart.php, from
IP = getenv( 'MW_INSTALL_PATH' );
if ( $IP === false ) {
        $IP = realpath( '.' ) ?: dirname( __DIR__ );
}
to
IP = getenv( 'MW_INSTALL_PATH' );
if ( $IP === false ) {
        $IP = dirname( __DIR__ );
}
Without realpath('.'), the files can NOT work with symlinks and can NOT easily shared by multiple wikis on a single site (because $IP is NOT set correctly).
Indeed, I have a few mediawiki wikis on a single machine running Fedora 30, and after updating to 1.32.2 rpm they don't run.
Could you put the realpath('.') statement back  ???
Thanks in advance.
Kazuyoshi KazuyoshiFurutaka (talk) 09:12, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
You can set the MW_INSTALL_PATH environment variable in apache so it finds the correct path. See the SetEnv Apache directive. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 10:11, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
Can it be used for multiple wikis in the same machine?; e.g. http://a.wiki.machine/wikiA/ and http://a.wiki.machine/wikiB/
Kazuyoshi KazuyoshiFurutaka (talk) 10:43, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
I don't know how is your "wiki farm" set up, so it will largely depend on how do you define different settings for each wiki Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 11:10, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
Very simple.
There're several wiki directories under /var/www/wiki (e.g. /var/www/wiki/wikiA, /var/www/wiki/wikiB, ...) and there's a LocalSettings.php in each directory; mediawiki files in the common /usr/share/mediawiki directory are shared via simlinks.
(I'm afraid a single httpd configuration (say MW_INSTALL_PATH) is shared by the wikis)
Kazuyoshi 240F:80:B046:1:69EF:D187:FC64:FDDA (talk) 13:34, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
Set MW_INSTALL_PATH to /usr/share/mediawiki, and WIKI_PATH to wikiA in the first case, or wikiB in the second, and then inside the LocalSettings of /usr/share/mediawiki require_once('/var/www/wiki/' . $_ENV['WIKI_PATH'] . '/LocalSettings.php'); Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 15:58, 3 July 2019 (UTC)

See bugzilla 1718580, specifically (DaveG 2019-07-14 02:14:09 UTC). I cannot include the link so posting the basics here. This is FC30 specific and addin to what Ciencia already pointed out,
Add a Directory entry for each wiki to /etc/httpd/conf.d/mediawiki.conf like below and restart httpd.
<Directory /some/wiki/dir>
    SetEnv MW_INSTALL_PATH "/some/wiki/dir"
    AllowOverride None
    Require all granted
</Directory>
If you get an error 500 after and are upgrading, check /var/log/php-fpm/www-error.log as it's probably choking loading something not included with the latest build. Remove it from LocalSettings.php and it should work. 98.194.73.219 (talk) 05:10, 20 July 2019 (UTC)
I too struggled with the FC30 changes in mediawiki. And, thanks to Johns comments am back and running again. This had me stumped for several weeks since I just did not have the time to research it. Now, something that worked for the past 10 years was broken in FC30, with no clear information on how to fix it -- is very sad.
I am also trying to now figure out how to run multiple wikis and that is broken. Ciencia Al Poder -- appreciate your comments, but they are too terse for the normal person. May help those who do not need help and can figure it out with a few hints. Will greatly appreciate the code fragments and in which files.. I just tried to do it in mediawiki.conf found in /etc/httpd/conf/conf.d -- but failed.

What extensions or techniques can be used to keep track of the page owner on a wiki? The purpose is twofold, to avoid edit conflicts and to emphasize an author's responsibility for a wiki page until it is completed. This should be installable at wikimedia wikis. Gryllida 09:38, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

I have Synology NAS installed and I am trying to run mediawiki on it.But whenever i try to update mediawiki by running the "update.php" script,It says i am missing a PHP extension namely,"phpinfo".I tried numerous ways to get phpinfo but all have gone in vain.

I have PHP 5.6 and PHP 7.2 installed and this extension is supposed to be enabled by default.However even after resttarting PHP the extension is not getting enabled.

I even tried running update.php using the Web Browser method,but it won't recognize the location of "mw-config" and it stated as an error.

I have minimal experience with this and am still learning.

Any help would be appreciated.Thank You! 130.113.219.194 (talk) 17:05, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

There is no PHP extension called phpinfo, is it fileinfo extension? 星耀晨曦 (talk) 19:54, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Did you restart the web server (e.g. apache) after installing the extension? 120.144.16.214 (talk) 12:37, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Multi 'page language' wiki

I seem to get more and more lost here - please help! I am trying to setup a multi language Wiki but I struggle with the simplest things. My wiki is Danish, but I want it to support English and probably the Scandinavian languages. The universal language selection works just fine - but I struggle getting 'page language' to work.

  • It seems like I can not create a new page in English, i tried to use the $wgPageLanguageUseDB = true; option, where I can set the page-language after the page is created (the page_lang field is set). But then other problems appears.
  • When I try to export/Import that page the language is not preserved... I actually aim to import some 400 corresponding pages in Danish/English. But it seems that the export/import from/to an other language does not work?
  • Also, How can I establish that a page in language1 corresponds to language2 - say in Wikipedia there is an article for Kant in both languages, they are corresponding... but it is not the same contents (translated).
  • Also Quite basically - how do I get the "other languages" options to show up?

What can I do to fix this fatal error during the upgrade process to 1.32.0?

In "Emoticons" (whatever that is), you could replace Article::getContent() with WikiPage::getContent() as Article::getContent() had been deprecated for ages and has now been removed. Malyacko (talk) 19:43, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

Edit summary blacklist

Hi all, Is it possible to block URLs from edit summaries? Someone posted a bunch of spam edit summaries, I don't see any benefit in allowing URLs to be posted so I'd like to block this.

Thanks Garuda3 (talk) 14:14, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

I wonder if Extension:SpamBlacklist would get you half-way there, by at least checking the URLs... the final comment here ("Log entries aren't scanned yet, but edit summaries now are.") seems relevant. Jonathan3 (talk) 23:59, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
Also, "edit summary" appears a few times on the hooks.txt page so probably you could remove URLs from edit summaries using an extension or maybe code in LocalSettings.php. Jonathan3 (talk) 00:09, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for that, I didn't realise Spam Blacklist covered summaries, so I'll keep that in mind. It was a YouTube URL so not something I wish to block across the whole site, so I guess I'll leave it for now. It seems like this attack was a one-off. Garuda3 (talk) 12:38, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
Extension:AbuseFilter can also help you build personalized filters, even for edit summary Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:30, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

MW Update from 1.23.17 to 1.31.1

Hi. I procrastinated a little bit with updating this wiki here:

It still runs with MW 1.23.17. Part of the problem is the server's PHP version, which is still 5.3.29. Now is the time to update this wiki because my provider wants to decommission this old server and so the wiki will be moved to another server by my provider. At the end I want to update to the LTS version MW 1.31.1.

But the question is, can this be done in "one step" or are there "more steps" needed?

"One step" would mean:

  1. The MW 1.23.17 wiki is moved to another server
  2. PHP is updated from 5.3.29/5.5.9/5.6.x to 7.2
  3. Update from 1.23.17 directly to 1.31.1 via web browser
  4. Execute the usual adjustments to the extensions

"More steps" would mean:

  1. The MW 1.23.17 wiki is moved to another server
  2. PHP is updated from 5.3.29 to 5.6.x
  3. Update from 1.23.17 to 1.27.5 via web browser
  4. Execute the usual adjustments for the extensions
  5. PHP is updated from 5.6.x to 7.2
  6. Update from 1.27.5 to 1.31.1 via web browser
  7. Execute the usual adjustments to the extensions

Many thanks to an answer in advance! Wgkderdicke (talk) 15:02, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

This probably won't help much, but I'm fairly certain (not sure) that in the past when jumping from an old version, I have just upgraded PHP first (even if incompatible the old MW version), got the new MW files, then run the update script. Jonathan3 (talk) 23:46, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
So you suggest to do it in "one step"? Wgkderdicke (talk) 01:28, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
This may depend on how much you value site and the traffic rate of your site. It sounds tempting for "one step", but if there is an accident when upgrading, you may need a recovery time longer than "More steps". From site stability, I recommend "More steps". 星耀晨曦 (talk) 20:01, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Personally I'd just go for it. The upgrade page talks about upgrading from "a really old version" in one step, and say that unless you'd on version 1.4 or older it should work fine: Manual:Upgrading#How_do_I_upgrade_from_a_really_old_version?_In_one_step,_or_in_several_steps?. Jonathan3 (talk) 22:08, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Well, it is a hobby site. There is no need to keep permanently an eye on the traffic rate or such things. This site can be offline for minutes, hours or days without any consequences. My provider will keep a backup so I can start twice or oftener from the beginning with the upgrade. So if there is an accident during the database upgrade, I can start very quick again. But without any accident I had to lay hands on the non-bundled extensions only once. Because this, so my experience, is the real and annyoing work on the software update. MobileApp installed but wiki still not mobile friendly

wfLoadExtension( 'MobileApp' );

properly in LocalSettings.php

Shows up in "special version" as installed.

My wiki is still classified as not mobile friendly. The sidebar still shows up and the words of the pages are still too small to read. 71.94.1.112 (talk) 21:27, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

The MobileApp extension is a back-end helper extension for the official Wikipedia native apps. It's not something that should be installed on non-Wikimedia sites, as it has a bunch of hard-coded assumptions.
You want the MobileFrontend extension plus the MinerveNeue skin. Jdforrester (WMF) (talk) 21:31, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
I am running MediaWiki 1.28.2 and on vector skin
Skin:Minerva Neue is recommended for MediaWiki 1.30+
What's your recommendation? 71.94.1.112 (talk) 15:49, 2 June 2019 (UTC)
I don't think Skin:Minerva Neue is recommended for just MediaWiki 1.30+. It has been working fine for previous versions too.
Just try downloading and installing the skin for versions 1.27 and 1.29 (for some reason 1.28 doesn't appear to be available). AhmadF.Cheema (talk) 16:31, 2 June 2019 (UTC)
Note that MediaWiki 1.28 is not a supported MediaWiki version and has probably security vulnerabilities. You should upgrade to a supported version.
Also note that on previous versions, the skin was simply "Minerva" and was part of MobileFrontEnd and not a separate skin. Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 09:27, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
1.27 is EOL this week. 1.28, 1.29, and 1.30 have not had security fixes since November 2017, July 2018, and December 2018 respectively. I would very strongly encourage you to upgrade to 1.32, the latest release. Jdforrester (WMF) (talk) 17:27, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for the upgrade recommendation. I tried. Then I came across so many errors. I had to restore everything back.
In 2016 upgrading to 1.28.2 was not a problem.
The site's database grew from 2 gig to 15 gig within 3 years.
