This page describes the Wikimedia Foundation's activities surrounding the MediaWiki action API (api.php).

Rationale

The MediaWiki action API has been steadily growing and adding features, and even though it provides most of the desired functionality, it has some areas in which it could be improved. At the same time, the changes must be done in such a way that the many users of the API have reasonable time to update their software.
