I translate FR messages for new created pages. Althtough the messages are correcly saved, even after a purge action, the FR option still does not appear in the bar of languages.

Special:Book the generated book shows the markup tags
Manual:MediaWiki_Git_Guide propose option 'Open in Book Creator' to create a user book under User:username/Books/ with a dedicated book creator banner on pages display. If I use 'Display the book' on this banner I reach Special:Book whic proposes a button to 'Preview with PediaPress' and this leads to the generated book => https://pediapress.com/books/setup/8934ced7cd88c0ebfa5f925249d425/
Cliking there for preview => On first pages "Git and Gerrit" see all markup tags "languages translate tvar..." are present in the printed book.

Community Wishlist Survey 2021
We invite all registered users to vote on the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey. You can vote from now until 21 December for as many different wishes as you want.
In the Survey, wishes for new and improved tools for experienced editors are collected. After the voting, we will do our best to grant your wishes. We will start with the most popular ones.
We, the Community Tech, are one of the Wikimedia Foundation teams. We create and improve editing and wiki moderation tools. What we work on is decided based on results of the Community Wishlist Survey. Once a year, you can submit wishes. After two weeks, you can vote on the ones that you're most interested in. Next, we choose wishes from the survey to work on. Some of the wishes may be granted by volunteer developers or other teams.
We are waiting for your votes. Thank you!

Why can I not create a page for myself as a independent artist? EnricoJames (talk) 06:14, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
- Because this isn't Wikipedia, and looking at your logs it won't be accepted on Wikipedia either Taavi (talk!) 06:31, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
- I think i just created a draft on Wikipedia. I have an article with Philly Weekly, maybe that may help? EnricoJames (talk) 18:59, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
- Generally, creating articles about yourself is frowned upon.
- If I were you, I would look up Wikipedians in the Philly area who know about the article in Philly Weekly and ask them if they can help you. ☠MarkAHershberger☢(talk)☣ 22:27, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

?? "utilisateur·rice" in FR title
Hi all On my FR contribution page I see "Contributions de l’utilisateur·rice". .... dirty and ambigous . Either Im a boy and I should see "Contributions de l’utilisateur" or im a girl and I see "Contributions de l’utilisatrice" but not a mix of both (french decline according to the gender). I corrected at lowest cost using male version as default on translatewiki => https://translatewiki.net/wiki/MediaWiki:Contributions/fr but better should be to use the gender of the user as declared in his profile. Christian 🇫🇷 FR 🚨 (talk) 16:12, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- You can use
GENDER
on messages to have them adjust to the current viewer's indicated gender automatically. 「ディノ奴千?!」☎ Dinoguy1000 16:39, 16 December 2020 (UTC) - Yes, we can done that locally but better should be to have GENDER hardcoded in the source message to apply similarly on other languages where names follow the gender : german, polish... Christian 🇫🇷 FR 🚨 (talk) 16:47, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- The problem is that GENDER needs the username as a parameter, which doesn't seem to be available on this particular message. This will require changes in MediaWiki. Basically, a BUGREPORT Ciencia Al Poder (talk) 16:53, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- Aah! I figured I was probably missing some detail here, thanks for pointing it out. 「ディノ奴千?!」☎ Dinoguy1000 17:04, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- Test with arbitrary $ 1 :
Je suis .
- Result:
- Je suis un homme.
- satisfied ? Christian 🇫🇷 FR 🚨 (talk) 11:55, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- Without support for the username as a parameter to the message, that will always display the male case. Whether this is acceptable is going to depend on what language you're looking at and who you're asking. 「ディノ奴千?!」☎ Dinoguy1000 12:34, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

Edit "not constructive"
I'm not even editing, I'm just trying to set up a redirect!
Page in question: Manual:Interface/Edit notice
Page I'm trying to create: Edit notice
Content of the page:
#REDIRECT notice/en
Or I should create a disambig to similar topics? (CentralNotice, etcetera) 180.253.107.24 (talk) 10:21, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- It's nothing to do with your edit specifically, there's a blanket restriction preventing any unregistered editor from creating pages in the main namespace. You can create an account to create the redirect, or someone else could create the redirect for you. 「ディノ奴千?!」☎ Dinoguy1000 10:24, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- Creating pages in the main space is currently not allowed for anonymous (and new) users, due the large amount of abuse. Redirects should be allowed, so I don't see why this shouldn't work. Maybe it only allows lowercase
#redirect
? - I've created the page manually. Let me know if you find any more redirects that need creating. —Mainframe98 talk 10:29, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
External links on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:AuthWP
I think an external link, WordPress, would be warranted on Extension:AuthWP, but I cannot add it. Similarly, I cannot set download-link in the ExtensionInstall template to Download. Is there anything that could be done about that? Hattne (talk) 22:16, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
- You have now made enough edits to this wiki that you should now be able to add external links without triggering the edit filter. That said, (speaking to other users watching this page, not to you), given the frequency with which this comes up, would it make sense to exempt edits to the Extension namespace from that filter, since they are often not spam? * Pppery * it has begun 22:23, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Hattne: Try again now, it should work.
- @Pppery: I would not encourage loosening the filter, because link spamming is a chronic problem and the filter does a very good job of filtering them out. Leaderboard (talk) 09:56, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
- I looked at the 100 most recent hits of that filter in Extension namespace (dating back to June 2020):
- That totals fifty-nine incorrectly blocked edits and forty-one correctly blocked edits. Are you sure that the filter [applied to the Extension namespace] does a very good job of filtering [link spam] out? * Pppery * it has begun 16:00, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, that still does a good job overall (considering how much link spam was there before), but seeing that most of the supposed false-positives are in the Extension namespace, I am open to, and am fine, with your loosening of the filter to exclude edits in that namespace.
- (39% is quite significant nevertheless) Leaderboard (talk) 15:20, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
- Come to think of it: in the interest of reducing traffic such as this, it may be worthwhile to reword the message presented to the user upon having an external link rejected. I don't recall precisely what it said, but it made me think that is was due to a per-user or even per-instance restriction that would have to be manually lifted by a human administrator. If the message were to indicate that you can't add links until you've got sufficiently many edits under your belt, I would not have started this duplicate thread. Hattne (talk) 18:00, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
- The message is MediaWiki:Abusefilter-warning-linkspam. I'd be willing to consider proposed rewordings, although of course any advice given there will also be read by actual spammers. * Pppery * it has begun 18:02, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
Enabling forward from translatewiki.net on Special:Interwiki
Hello. Can somebody enable forward for translatewiki.net on Special:Interwiki? I will use that for shortest way instead of making external link. Thank you. Elisa3626 (talk) 10:48, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
- translatewiki: is enabled on all WMF wikis. Just try: translatewiki:Translating:MediaWiki PerfektesChaos (talk) 10:53, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
- That's not what I was asked for. I will use the interwiki link, like mw:translatewiki:Page name. I will use that interwiki for outside of Wikimedia wikis. Elisa3626 (talk) 10:58, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
- To get help with MediaWiki software, ask on Project:Support desk. Shirayuki (talk) 11:04, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
- Okay Shirayuki. Thanks. Elisa3626 (talk) 11:12, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
- That use case does not seem meaningful to me.
- There is nothing like a redirect of redirects of interwiki sites.
- With internal sites it may be constructed something like https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/en:Main_Page but translatewiki is external and must not be covered by a WMF domain for security reasons. Therefore it does not work to resolve https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/translatewiki:Main_Page
- If you are embedding that link from outside WMF, the site which has knowledge of mw: does need to learn translatewiki: by its own Special:Interwiki.
- The only solution within this wiki here would work by creating a page and transclude Template:Soft redirect inside but I am afraid nobody will do that. PerfektesChaos (talk) 11:12, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
