What we want to do
We plan to experiment with various approaches and ideas represented by the rough mockups shown below. We’d like to test the hypothesis that these improvements will help illustrate more articles on the Wikipedias.
Upload Wizard Improvements
1. Add and improve copy within the upload wizard to encourage more specific depict tags.
2. Add alerts and messaging within the upload wizard that encourage more specific depict tags
Notifications
4. Notify users who have a particular article on their watchlist if there are any images that are a potential match for that article (with the ability to opt in or out of these notifications).
5. Notify users who have uploaded an image if the image(s) they’ve uploaded are a match to any articles on wikis in the language(s) the user speaks.
6. If the user clicks “review suggestion”, they are taken to a tool that displays the suggestion(s) and allows them to add the image(s) to the article(s).
Article Talk Pages
7. Place a message on the talk page of an article that has a potential image candidate for the article.
8. Update the messaging on the talk page once the image has been reviewed.
Visual Editor
9. Add suggested images to the image search UI in Visual Editor.
10. When an article has an image suggestion(s), alert editors by placing a blue dot by the “Insert” dropdown in Visual Editor.
11. If selected, show a dialog to editors who are editing a page that has image suggestion(s) to give them the opportunity to review the suggestion.
