File:Tutorial Structured Data on Commons for GLAM institutions - 2021 LD4 Conference.webm
Summary
Description |
English: Speaker: Giovanna Fontenelle
Moderators: Beat Estermann, Anne Chen Structured Data on Commons uses structured data (linked open data) from Wikibase/Wikidata to improve connectivity, machine-readability, translatability, and accessibility of media files on the Wikimedia Commons platform. The project also facilitates the findability of files on Commons and, consequently, assists in the usability of these same files in other Wikimedia platforms, especially in Wikipedia articles of several languages. The session will present the context and possibilities of Structured Data on Commons, especially for cultural and heritage institutions. It will bring example cases, such as the initiatives by the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET), amongst others. The workshop will also explain how to use Structured Data on Commons, including which kind of modeling is necessary for the data of the institutions' collection items, as well as the best tools for uploading SDC to media files, and the best ways to visualize and extract analytics from the metadata added. |
