Commons talk:Blocking policy
What is global blocks
If you have a blocking evasion this message will appear under the MediaWiki:Wikimedia-globalblocking-ipblocked Formerly known as MediaWiki:Globalblocking-blocked are shown as an error message (analogous to MediaWiki:Blockedtext for locally blocked users). Registered users cannot be globally blocked. The analogous action is global locking, which prevents anyone from logging into the account. 171.250.162.76 13:09, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, and welcome. That is somewhat right, but let me add that global blocks are like local blocks in that they both can disallow editing for an IP Address or a netblock of them, but they are different in that global blocks are made by Stewards, not Admins, generally after a report at m:srg. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 15:25, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
Section "Before blocking"
I have come up with an idea for another case where blocks can be applied without any warning, and it can be added as a bullet point to the section: Shortcut: ONESTRIKE
- Users who are blocked on other Wikimedia projects for vandalism or other types of disruptive editing: If a user is blocked on another Wikimedia project and uploads a relevant malicious image or otherwise makes a similar malicious edit here on Commons, then the block settings used on the other project may be applied here without any warning. This does not mean that users must be blocked on Commons just because they are blocked on another wiki. However, if they continue the behavior that got them blocked on the other project, then they can be blocked without warning.
This is similar to WV:ONESTRIKE on English Wikivoyage, and a similar policy should be used on Commons for good reasons. I've seen advertisers blocked on English Wikipedia or Meta upload promotional images here on Commons, a lot of whose accounts I got locked by the stewards, even if they aren't blocked here.
