Summary
Description |
English: symbol for the moon Janus: a key and a walking stick (baculum), the latter stylized as Saturn's hook, and the former hinting at a double 'J'. The key and baculum are the symbols of Janus, god of doorways and roadways, and were suggested as the symbol when "Janus" was under consideration as the name for Neptune (Pillans, James (1847) "Ueber den Namen des neuen Planeten". Astronomische Nachrichten 25 (26): 391). |
