Subinfoboxes come into play if the Wikidata item given by |qid= has at most two values for category combines topics (P971). A subinfobox is then shown for each value if the value item does not have a subclass of (P279) statement and is not an instance of a large geographic entity (countries, continents etc.) or something trivial like calendar years or decades.

For example, the category 1700 in Pennsylvania combines two topics: 1700 and Pennsylvania, but only a subinfobox for Pennsylvania is shown since 1700 is a calendar year.
