For example, using this graph, one can see that the Libertarian Party had its highest ranking since 1976 in the years 1984, 1988, and 2012 (it came in third place in those three years), or that the Republican Party had its second-highest ranking since 1976 in the years 1976, 1992, 1996, 2008, and 2012 (it came in second place in those five years). Although this graph compares intraparty ordinal rankings based on percentages of the popular votes, the graph deviates from this in that it indicates the Republican Party's 2000 electoral victory over the Democratic Party.
