- Maybe from gall mites (Eriophyidae, which are not insects)? Small size and hairyness would suggest against gall wasps. Dysmorodrepanis 12:36, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- If the tree was a Fagus sylvatica, (European beech or common beech), this could be galls induced by Cecidomyiidae (gallmidge) species Hartigiola annulipes Bj.schoenmakers (talk) 19:46, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
