English: This image depicts US Marines marching through Bridge Street in the city of Sydney, with the New South Wales Education Building to the right. Two thousand officers took part in the march from Woolloomooloo wharf through the city and back to the wharf. On 24 July, 'The Sydney Morning Herald' reported that thousands of people gathered at every vantage point throughout the city to catch a glimpse of the American visitors. Captain Hepburn, commander of USS WEST VIRGINIA, led the parade through the streets of Sydney.

This photo is part of the Australian National Maritime Museum’s Samuel J. Hood Studio collection. Sam Hood (1872-1953) was a Sydney photographer with a passion for ships. His 60-year career spanned the romantic age of sail and two world wars. The photos in the collection were taken mainly in Sydney and Newcastle during the first half of the 20th century.
