Summary
Description |
English: Roughly 2,000 years ago, the amphitheater and odeon of Philadelphia were built around a huge public plaza lined with graceful columns such as these, which were found at the site and stood back up again to give an idea of the ancient plan. When new, these limestone columns were covered with plaster and carefully decorated with faux-marble designs.
