English: Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) awarded to 412189 Flight Lieutenant Kenneth Henry Becroft, 218 Squadron in 1943 silver cross medal, 54mm wide, with ribbon obverse- terminating in rose, surmounted by second cross in form of propeller blades (vertical) and wings (horizontal), charged at centre with roundel within laurel wreath, crowned RAF monogram at centre reverse- royal cypher above date 1918 suspension bar decorated with a sprig of laurel ribbon- 30mm wide, diagonal stripes of alternating purple and white marked verso- 1943 |

| Notes | Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) GRI - GVI (1943) 412189 Flt. Lt. Kenneth Henry Becroft, 218 Squadron Kenneth Henry Becroft, DFC (1915-1987) RNZAF RAF. Served- UK 218 (Gold Coast) Bomber Squadron then as a flying instructor. Rated as an exceptional pilot. Awarded DFC. Auckland Star report relating to DFC dated 26.10.1943 - "Flying-Officer Becroft as Captain, has completed 30 operations over enemy territory, states the citation. One night in April 1943, he piloted an aircraft detailed to attack Rostock. While crossing the enemy coast his aircraft was hit by flak and one engine and the elevator controls were damaged. Despite this Flying-Officer Becroft continued to his target and carried out a bombing attack. He has displayed great skill, courage and determination. Flying-Officer Becroft was born in Helensville in July, 1915, and was educated at the Helensville primary and district high schools. He was commissioned in December 1942 and promoted to flying-officer last June.” | |||||||||||||||||||||||
