English: Medal commemorating the end of the Anglo Boer War, 1899-1900 cast brass medal in medal case ,1 medal- obverse- Angel ministering to the fallen; inscription- TO THE - MEMORY OF THOSE - WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR - QUEEN AND COUNTRY in exurgue on plaque in smaller letters- SOUTH AFRICAN - CAMPAIGN - 1899 1900 reverse- Bellona sheathing her sword, columns of troops marching to ships in harbour; sun inscribed PAX (Peace) rising in distance circular bronze medal in original case .2 case- square hinged medal case with red morocco leather surface; cream velvet lining with inset for medal; cream satin inside lid which has maker's details in gilt lettering- MANUFACTURED BY - THE MINT. BIRMINGHAM, LIMITED. | Notes | Medal commemorating the end of the Anglo Boer War, 1899-1900 This peace medal, by Emil Fuchs, features the figure of Bellona, the Roman Goddess of War, who is usually depicted wearing a helmet and carrying a sword and wearing other articles of war. According to Laurence Brown, this " - medal was seen by Queen Victoria and was favourably commented on by her to Emil Fuchs during an audience in 1900.
