| Description |
The Aasee is an artificial lake southwest of Münster city center. Its origins date back to the early 20th century. Between 1914 and 1926, the Aa river was dammed to regulate flooding and create a local recreation area. In the 1970s, the lake was expanded and redesigned. The Aasee is around 2.3 kilometers long and surrounded by spacious green areas. Walking and cycling paths, sailing and pedal boat facilities, and sunbathing lawns make it a popular meeting place. Cultural institutions such as the LWL Museum of Art and Culture and the Allwetterzoo are also nearby. Today, the Aasee combines flood protection, leisure, and culture. It is considered the “green heart” of Münster and shapes the cityscape as well as the lifestyle of this bicycle-friendly university town. The Skulptur.Projekte Münster is an internationally renowned exhibition of art in public spaces, which has been held every ten years in Münster since 1977. It was initiated by Klaus Bußmann and Kaspar König. The aim was to redefine the relationship between contemporary sculpture, urban space, and the public, and to spark controversial discussions about art in urban spaces. Many of the works developed specifically for Münster remain permanently in the cityscape and continue to shape it to this day. Artists from all over the world engage with the architecture, history, and social fabric of the city. The exhibition takes place parallel to the documenta in Kassel and has developed into a central forum for site-specific art. Over the decades, the Skulptur.Projekte have reflected social, political, and aesthetic developments, making Münster a lively testing ground for modern art. Licensing
- You are free:
- to share – to copy, distribute and transmit the work
- to remix – to adapt the work
- Under the following conditions:
- attribution – You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.
- share alike – If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same or compatible license as the original.

The photographical reproduction of this work is covered under the article § 59 of the German copyright law, which states that "It shall be permissible to reproduce, by painting, drawing, photography or cinematography, works which are permanently located on public ways, streets or places and to distribute and publicly communicate such copies. For works of architecture, this provision shall be applicable only to the external appearance."
As with all other “limits of copyright by legally permitted uses”, no changes to the actual work are permitted under § 62 of the German copyright law (UrhG). See Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Germany#Freedom of panorama for more information.

Notes
For users of the photo
The rules of the listed free license apply, no more and no less. Please respect the copyright protection.
Particular attention should be paid to the terms of use, especially when using social media. These sometimes do not correspond to the license conditions listed here. (See CC BY-SA licenses and social media.) Please check this before use in the respective medium.
The license conditions must also be respected when using so-called generative artificial intelligence (AI). Images created on the basis of this image are processed images or derivatives within the meaning of the license.
Of course, a free license is no carte blanche for use. In particular, there are restrictions not based on the license, for example to the personality rights of the author (Copyright law of Germany, §§ 12 to 14 of the German Copyright Act). This is especially true for the required attribution and the use of the image. It is expressly not allowed to give the impression through the use of the image, that the author supports the work, in which the image is used, or whose rights holders in any way.

For editors
Even though a wiki offers a wide range of possibilities, some changes are possible but not permitted. The creator of the image has made it available here under the specific license mentioned. The three components — image file, license, and filename (title) — are inextricably linked. Always keep in mind that images are also used outside the Wikimedia Commons ecosystem. In those contexts, attribution specifically refers to this exact location and this exact image file here.
- If you make changes to the image and want to make the modified image available to others here, upload the result under a new name and credit yourself as the editor — even for very minor changes. The templates Derivative and Extract are also available for this purpose. In addition, the author would like to make only minor corrections to the source he has on hand. The source is — as a rule — a RAW file. Editing a JPEG file always results in an undesirable loss of quality.
- As an alternative to the specified license, only compatible licenses are permitted. Otherwise, any other form of licensing is reserved exclusively for the copyright holder.
- When making changes to the filename, please always keep in mind the world outside of Wikimedia Commons. Anyone who enters a link expects the correct page with the correct image to appear. Anything else leads to confusion. A reference to the file versions is considered insufficient and impractical.
If you believe changes are necessary, or if you would like to offer constructive criticism, please contact the author.
It goes without saying that using the Crop Tool will not overwrite this original file. In accordance with the license, the resulting cropped image will have its user categories removed, any labels like “Quality Image” removed, the name of the person who created the cropped image added, and this original file cited as the source.
Two additional notes:
- File metadata (EXIF/IPTC/XMP) may not be removed or altered, provided that it is useful and necessary for the enforcement of rights. (protection of information necessary for the enforcement of rights, §95c UrhG).
- The author expressly disavows any images based on his photos (derivative works) that have been altered — even minimally — by third parties and on which only his name is listed as the author.
The title (or, alternatively, the filename) is part of the license’s required information and should therefore not be changed. If any of the information is incorrect, the author would appreciate being notified.
