Description |
English: Lenin Library of Gorky Oblast. City of Gorky. An oblast is a Russian term for an administrative zone or province; this particular one was named after famed Russian author and revolutionary Maxim Gorky. This specific library (named after Lenin), was evidently evacuated and materials removed from the library following a government directive in June of 1941, out of concern that materials would be damaged during wartime. The city is now known as Nizhny Novgorod, but it was known as Gorky from 1932-1990.
