Summary
Description |
The Kowloon Walled City was a largely ungoverned densely populated den located in Kowloon, Hong Kong. When the New Territories were leased to the British in 1898 the city became a Chinese enclave. A population surge and inadequate policing led to the city becoming a den of prostitution, drug use and gambling. Eviction and demolition of the city began in 1993 and two years later the Kowloon Walled City Park opened in its place. Here a young woman dressed in a Japanese street fashion type poses for a photographer within the park boundaries. |
