From Egypt to Sudan, and then dispersed across sub-Saharan Africa, African women, before the arrival of European civilization, dressed in crimson cloth and traditional beads. Women and girls of menstruating age carefully secured the crimson cloth with beads to prevent any leakage after urinating or during menstruation.
This crimson cloth was made from pure cotton. |
