Nederlands: Snaarinstrument. De yueqin (yue betekent maan, qin is de generische term voor snaarinstrumenten) is een korthalsluit van Han-Chinese herkomst. Het instrument is afgeleid van de ruan, een luit. Het aantal frets, de delen waar de snaren overheen lopen en waar je je vingers achter plaatst, is traditioneel 10 of 12 en bevindt zich op zowel de hals als het lichaam van het instrument.
De twee bij twee gegroupeerde zijden snaren worden met de vingers of met een kline plectrum bespeeld. De luit wordt gebruikt als begeleidend instrument bij zang en in volksensembles. De yueqin wordt nog veel gezien in de traditionele Peking opera. In de jaren 1950 werd het aantal frets opgeschroefd naar 23 en 24, om het instrument zo te moderniseren. Desondanks heeft het instrument niet aan populariteit gewonnen en wordt het slechts nog weinig gebruikt in de moderne Chinese orkesten (Groves dictionary; Jinpei, in Provine et al., 2002:218). Deze folk instrumentele orkesten ontstonden in de jaren 1930 en waren een mengvorm van traditionele Chinese en Westerse instrumenten.
