English: Name: The Damascus Gate - the ancient Roman one beneath Description: The lower Roman Byzantine gate from the 2nd-4th century AD, from the time of Emperor Hadrian, who suppressed the Bar Kokhba revolt and built the pagan Roman city of Allea Capitolina on the ruins of Jerusalem from the Second Temple period.
