Commons talk:Vandalism
2010 comment
I think that "Vandalism" is an ambigous term (abstract term). This page, as a policy, should contain a more precise definition of the range of what should be considered vandalism. Where is the line between malicious or non malicious edit? It is evident that change the description of a page in order to confuse or change the meaning and the explanation about the file is vandalism. But change categories, for instance, in appliance of commons:categorization is often interpreted by some other users as vandalism and reverted. --Bestiasonica (talk) 09:52, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
- I feel weird replying to a comment after nearly 14 years but: "vandalism" refers to actions taken with the deliberate intention of harming the site rather than improving it, or with reckless disregard for such damage and with no positive intent. Someone might occasionally misjudge an incompetent or obscure but well-intentioned edit as vandalism, but usually it is pretty clear when edits are malicious or reckless. And I think I will add that explicitly to the page. - Jmabel ! talk 21:00, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
Reverting image vandalism
You need to be logged-in to revert the image. (If you do not have an account, creating one takes only a few seconds, needs no personal details, and is free.)
This section is misleading. In order to revert image vandalism, you need the reupload
permission, but according to Special:ListGroupRights, you need to be autoconfirmed in order to reupload files. Thus, reverting image vandalism is not just a matter of registering an account. --Stefan4 (talk) 01:52, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
Template:IRC
How about using {{IRC|wikimedia-commons|webchat=1|text=IRC chatroom}}
→ IRC chatroom webchat (it features a webchat-link). -- Rillke(q?) 22:29, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
Vandalism-only images
Images without any good version in the file history happen, which are only used for vandalism in Wikipedia. Examples:
- File:Jordi de Mas.jpg (hist • logs • abuse log)
- File:Flag of FYROM Macedonia.png (hist • logs • abuse log)
- File:Coat of arms of Skopje (2018-today).png (hist • logs • abuse log)
- File:Nuriootpa high school logo.jpg (hist • logs • abuse log)
Should a guideline exist about vandalism abroad by Commons images? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 06:47, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
Should define vandalism
At the very least: "Vandalism is willful damage. Please do not accuse other Commons contributors of being "vandals" over disagreements as to what is best for the project." Possibly this should be followed by the example "an obscene file is uploaded over an existing one" etc. before we say, "In the event that you see vandalism". Jmabel ! talk 05:00, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
Fake files and databases
Who is making all of these fake files. I know the source if anyone wants to contact me please do. This crap needs to stop. I can tell the community that it's from a computer in Lansford Pennsylvania — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.44.124.215 (talk) 17:21, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
