I undeleted the images per Commons:Undeletion requests/Current requests#File:Artificial_planet_inspiration_1.jpg. The previous deletion request was closed after less than 2 hours, significantly earlier than the standard 7-day period, and did not allow for meaningful discussion. The images had been in active use on en:Artificial planet just prior to the deletion request, and were removed from the article by the deletion nominator without local consensus.

Given the concerns raised about educational scope and COM:SCOPE, I am re-nominating these images for deletion. If they are not COM:INUSE seven days after the opening of this discussion and no compelling educational value is demonstrated, I support their deletion at that time. However, the proper course is to let this run as a standard DR and allow interested parties to weigh in — especially given that their prior removal and deletion happened without consensus. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 01:22, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

Thank you for reopening this and pointing out the sloppy handling of our rules (discussion duration, notifications) which make me question whether some folks should indeed be carrying out admin responsibilities - sigh. Anyway, I've restored the image to en wiki article (which I am the primary author of) as I find it is useful and in line with en: WP:IMGCONTENT, i.e. "The purpose of an image is to increase readers' understanding of the article's subject matter, usually by directly depicting people, things, activities, and concepts described in the article.", which I believe is the purpose the image serves (of course, I do not own that article, but since I wrote it, please give me some good faith and leeway in illustrating it, folks). That article initially had no images and I've asked for some to be created; it has room for more than one image, so we can have fan art (aka artist impression) from (I assume) human (File:Scrapworld.png) as well as from AI. I'd be fine with replacing them with images from notable artists one day, but until that happens, such images are perfectly fine for cultural topics like this (artist visions of stuff that does not exist in reality, and is just a hypothetical/sci-fi/etc. concept). In few hundred years maybe we can replace such images with real photos; a bit sooner we can expect some stuff, like cover art of specific works mentioned in the article, to enter public domain, probably :P Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 07:35, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
PS. Please note that my argument above concerns image #1. Image #4 was never used, and seems rather abstract to me, and not as useful, I don't have particularly strong feelings about keeping it (in fact, I expect that as AI progresses rapidly, we could simply generate a better, more realistic image and replace both images...). I'll also note that File:Artificial planet inspiration 2.jpg and File:Artificial planet inspiration 3.jpg were deleted in another discussion (that one seems to have lasted for the proper week). I haven't seen them so I can't honestly say if they are better or worse, although I am curious if they could be restored for the sake of this discussion (@Josve05a) - maybe one of them would be superior to the "#1"? Subjective, of course. Again, I am fine with unused images being deleted later, although I am not sure what policy rationale supports such cleanup. No rationale was cited in the nomination here or there and frankly, I think Category:Poor quality AI-generated images is subjective (unlike somewhat reasonable and in-scope, ironically, Category:AI misgeneration). PPS. I looked into the "poor quality"; it seems that its valid but just need renaming, which I'll propose, per Template:Bad ai. However, the definition of a "poor ai image", based on that template, is one with "obvious artifacts", and there's a caveat that "It might therefore qualify for deletion if an identical image of better quality is provided". I'll note that no "identical or better quality" image was proposed for the images listed here or there, nor were any "artifacts" identified. I think it would be good to delete Artificial planet inspiration 4.jpg. For the other file, I think that's a subject that can be well-illustrated using an AI image. However, the image is not good and if anything is useful for a new image2image version but it's quite likely one can create a better image from scratch so it's not illustrating the subject well and low quality and where it's in use it's just a matter of time before it'll be removed (because it's EN WP and also because of the file's quality). Again: good idea but bad implementation and I'm sure somebody could create a pretty good illustration of that subject. Prototyperspective (talk) 11:52, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

Thanks for flagging. Is the issue about the incorrect representation of the CC license or that NC part of the CC license?
For the former, I don't know if I know how to make it more specific, so if that's the case, please change it accordingly. If it is the latter reason, I might have assumed that images on Wikipedia comply with the definition of NonCommercial, being "not primarily intended for or directed towards commercial advantage or monetary compensation" (https://wiki.creativecommons.org/wiki/NonCommercial_interpretation). The FAQ on the NC wording emphasizes "primarily", where "the primary purpose of the reuse that needs to be considered". And in my interpretation of Wikipedia, the primary purpose in reusing this image aligns with Wikipedia' goals to "benefit readers by acting as a widely accessible and free encyclopedia" (emphasis is mine) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Purpose.

That's the wrong deletion reason. The issue is that the subject of the photo is the apparent uploader, but this is not a selfie. That's a copyright problem.  Delete for that reason. The photographers (almost all of them from Germany and Austria) are credited, and while some of them died over 70 years ago, most of them did not. So most of these photographs are not in the public domain in Germany yet, and the files should be deleted. They can be restored 70 years pma.

these are not my work. For each biography I have provided a link to the book from which I took the images. I don't know what more I can do. The author of the books is a neighbor of mine, a university professor, but he is very old, almost 90 years old, and is in a wheelchair.
All I know is that he worked for about 10 years on these books (which I had a hard time getting hold of), and these are unique biographies, unique information. It's a pity they don't appear on Wikipedia. Neculai (talk) 19:47, 21 April 2025 (UTC)

 Keep The uploader was RandomUserGuy1738, a well known collaborator from the current U.S. Administration at Wikimedia Commons. If he thinks the photographs to be free U.S. Government stuff we can trust him. Those who call the photographs unfree do not offer any convincing proof and their arguments are contradictory. In this particular case they say the photos were a "courtesy of the Vatican", relying on a standard comment in an outlet called "Trump Nation News", heavily biased and not reliable. In other cases they call them "Reuters pictures", which is even less convincing (Reuters can use U.S. Government stuff as we do, they could also have used Vatican Agency stuff, so the fact that some media took the pictures from Reuters does not mean anything). In both cases they are using secondary sources to claim that the picture was not made by U.S. Government staff.  Comment, the 3 photos nominated for deletion can be found in this Vatican News article . Both Vatican News and VP's social media posted these photos on 20 April 2025. However, the Vatican News article was posted on 13:01 (unknown timezone), while the VP’s Twitter post was posted on 15:27 UTC, and his FB post was posted on 15:37 UTC. Even assuming the article time is in CEST (Rome timezone, UTC+2), that is still earlier than the VP's posts. So it is more likely that Vatican Media took the photos in question. This is not a good argument for PCP in my opinion. It's rather common that press agencies execute copyfraud or wrong crediting (in fact, they tend to mislabel public domain sources like NASA footage, as I saw it very often). We even had a case where a photo agency claimed copyright of a Wikipedia logo. See: Commons:Forum/Archiv/2025/April#Bildrechte am Wikipedia-Logo "plötzlich" bei Bildagentur?. It's rather an automated procedure, where not every source and legislation is added manually for every image. And the little word "via" is important here, as it suggests that it is brought from the original source to Reuters into the public (not "by" as creator). However, those two photos were from 2014, and the photo in question is the only photo from 2008. There's image quality issues throughout, a bunch of COM:PACKAGING DWs, and generally just a lot of poorly composed photos of household objects, food and beverages, and - oddly - vitamin pills. @Omphalographer: - Yes, I hate to say it, but the majority of this user's uploads could likely be nominated for deletion on the grounds of quality (for example or even more bizarrely this isn't the sun). I've replaced two of those uses with higher-quality images; the remaining one (min:wikt:cooking oil) appears to be the result of a template (min:wikt:Templat:Galeri) which automatically inserts any available image whose filename matches the page name - using this image doesn't appear to have been a deliberate choice made by an editor of that project. While the original filmed inserts may have been released under a CC licence, there is no evidence that the music (identical to the commercial being parodied) was licenced under CC. Seeing as the original author Melchior Rietveldt, got a fine levied against the original producers of the advert for not properly licencing his music , (and keeping in mind PRP) this really shouldn't be something we are telling people is under a free licence. The same goes for the 9/11 footage used here.

While the Juice Media may be able to fall back on fair use (although surely in Australia that should be Fair dealing) we don't allow it for files uploaded here (per Commons:Fair use) Cakelot1 ☞️ talk 21:02, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
