Summary

Description
English: As humans develop after birth, their carpal bones arise and begin to ossify in a predictable pattern. The first bone to arise is usually the capitate, followed by the hamate, triquetrum, lunate, and so on. The presence or absence of carpal bones in an x-ray of the hand and wrist of a growing child can help physicians assign a bone age to the child.
