Summary
Description |
English: Wedding of Mathieu Chantelois and Marcelo Gomez in Toronto (Toronto City Hall in background), one of the first same-sex marriages in Canada. In 2003, the Ontario Court of Appeal overturned the ban on same-sex marriages in the province, making Ontario the first jurisdiction in Canada where same-sex marriages were legal. This event led Courts in 8 other Canadian provinces and one territory to render similar decisions, ultimately leading to the passage in 2005 of the Civil Marriage Act which legalized same-sex marriage across the entire country. |
