@Yann and 999real: what about public domain in Indonesia? Panam2014 (talk) 16:08, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
But as I said above, where was it first published? This will determine which copyright law applies. Yann (talk) 16:19, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
@Yann: the problem we have no info about it. If you have the time to check it. Panam2014 (talk) 17:57, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
Sorry, but no. It is the uploader's responsibility to do that. Yann (talk) 17:58, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
Yes @Yann: but what is the adequate tag for the file since no evidence that it have been published in Syria? Panam2014 (talk) 00:38, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
If there is no proof that it was first published in Syria, we have to use a general case, i.e. 70 years (or 95 years for USA) after publication by an unknown author, so not public domain yet. It might be OK if it was first published in USA without a copyright notice, or lacking copyright renewal. It might also be OK if first published in Indonesia. Yann (talk) 09:34, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
  • We generally rely on Occam's Razor, the simplest explanation for which nation's laws to apply, Syria is the simplest explanation. --RAN (talk) 18:25, 15 June 2025 (UTC)

Source says "from Bonaparte, 1991a", therefore of different copyright. FunkMonk (talk) 22:02, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

The description is copied from the image's caption in my source, which has a CC 3.0 license. I thought that when an image is republished in a CC journal it gains the CC license of that journal. Should I reference Bonaparte, 1991 due to the attribution clause of CC 3.0? Fanboyphilosopher (talk) 01:24, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
The CC-by license of the journal applies to the material they publish, given they have the rights on it (otherwise it's what's called "license laundering"). What is in discussion here is if the authors of the 2004 paper had the rights to reproduce the image from the 1991 paper. --Ruthven (msg) 08:07, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
The authors of the paper are reputable paleontologists with similar areas of study to Bonaparte. I can't really verify whether permission was given, but the copyright notices on the "about" only require that a paper's authors attribute the original artists if images are republished. Given that the journal is published out of the Argentine Museum of Natural Sciences, and that Bonaparte leads the museum's entire vertebrate paleontology department(), I can't imagine that he didn't give some sort of permission during the whole peer review and publishing process.  Keep The source attributes it to a different John Gibb that has been dead for a century. How sure are we about which one it is? The content seems a century old. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 06:41, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
Hi @The Squirrel Conspiracy, did you mean to vote keep then delete the image anyway? Simply, the source is wrong, I have been trying to clear away 3000 (and counting) careless mass uploads of still-copyrighted content from some aggregator websites (artnet, invaluable) that merge multiple people based solely on their name for months now, which I am unfortunately far from done. The source has the description "Grouping of 3 John Gibb Prints Station - 1996, Sea Side - 1993, Turness Abby Station - 1991" which does not match the attribution to John Gibb (1831–1909) who is a marine painter anyway. I'm certain this print was made by John S Gibb due to its content and there being another set of prints by him falsely attributed to John Gibb on the source website: (and by extension currently on Commons File:John Gibb - 6d24147bae.jpg) Nutshinou Talk! 09:01, 9 June 2025 (UTC)

PD-TH-exempt Official report from Tourism Authority of Thailand --Ginphuaktidfun (talk) 17:57, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
The Tourism Authority of Thailand is a state enterprise and not a government agency, so it does not count under the "รายงานของทางราชการ" that the Copyright Act's Section 7(4) refers to. (And even for reports by government agencies, which aren't eligible for copyright protection, being included in such reports does not void the pre-existing copyright of individual constituent images.) --Paul_012 (talk) 10:12, 3 June 2025 (UTC)

All of these are under URAA copyright. The oldest of them is from December 1946. If it were published in 1946 (which is unproven) it would have a Malayasian copyright until 1/1/1997, which was a year after the URAA date,

Delete File:P. Ramlee mendapat anugerah A.M.N. dari DYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong ke-3.jpg,  Keep the rest: Per COM:CRT/Malaysia#General_Rules, Malaysia's copyright term for photographs used to be 25 years before it was extended to 50 years in 1987 non-retroactively (meaning that pre-1962 photos were public domain by 1996, the URAA date). VTSGsRock (talk) 01:48, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
Under Malaysian copyright law, prior to the Copyright Act 1987, photographs were protected for 25 years from the date of creation. Therefore, a photo taken in 1962 would have entered the public domain by 1987. The 1987 Act extended the term to 50 years, but it did not revive copyright for works that had already entered the public domain. As such, this photo remains in the public domain and is eligible for upload under PD-Malaysia. BujangLapok05 (talk) 19:08, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
Specifically, this photo was published in September 1962, which means its copyright expired in September 1987 — two months before the Copyright Act 1987 came into force on 1 December 1987. Since the new law does not revive expired copyrights, the work remains in the public domain in Malaysia. BujangLapok05 (talk) 19:22, 6 June 2025 (UTC)

Exact duplicate of File:BSicon exKSTRa ruby Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 15:17, 2 June 2025 (UTC)

Is it possible to replace these duplicate filenames with redirects that will still work with BSicon templates? I just tested it out and it seems to work just fine, so I shall use this method going forward.
I'm still not sure how or why we ended up with colour sets named ruby/ex_ruby and also exruby/ex_exruby as well as other sets such as brown and teal? Presumably to either allow a 3-level colour system or to match specific line-colours?
You may wish to check my upload log for any more icons in the exruby, exbrown, and exteal colours which can be replaced by redirects. Icons that use two colours, for example File:BSicon ABZgrxl exruby.svg which uses both exruby and ex_exruby colours, won't be direct duplicates of anything and should presumably be retained? -=# Amos E Wolfe talk #=- 15:38, 2 June 2025 (UTC)

This statue was erected with donations of members and friends of a cultural association, and, according my knowledge, no one secured copyrights for this, as well neither in 1965 nor today a law protecting the copyright of honorary statues in public view exists in Greece, unless their creator has secured ad hoc such rights. There is no freedom of panorama in Russia for sculpture and probably the photo violates sculptor's copyright. This is 1975 statue, sculptor's death year is unknown. Taivo (talk) 19:29, 2 June 2025 (UTC)

Per the sculptor is A.I. Kobylinets (А. И. Кобылинец) and the architects are V.N. Gorodkov (В.Н. Городков) and A.M. Manachinsky (A.M. Маначинский).
  • The full name of the architect is likely Aleksey Ivanovich Kobylinets and that would mean, he lived from 13.09.1938 to 19.09.2018) (see ).
  • The full name of the first architect is likely Vasily Nikolaevich Gorodkov (1914-1997) (see w:ru:Городков, Василий Николаевич).
  • Can't really find any clear information on the second architect, except that his first name might have been Aleksandr and that he was probably still alive in 1983, but dead by 2016. I'm assuming this based on the information from this PDF from 2018, which, on pages 95-96, is speaking about a monument by Aleksandr Manachinsky that should have been built in 1983, but the project was abandoned due to the fall of the Soviet Union, and it took 33 years for some locals to incidentally run into the architect's son, who happened to still have his father's original plans for the project, to finally finish the monument. This sounds like the father was already dead by the time the locals met the son, so the architect must have died some time between 1983 and 2016.

Wide World Photos is not the photographer, PD-old-100 makes no sense Goesseln (talk) 22:08, 2 June 2025 (UTC)

Comment The license tag is certainly incorrect, but LOC says the work is PD. The LOC file info says that they made a search for a renewal and didn't find one - a requirement for copyright in the US for a work published at that time - meaning it is PD. Wide World Photos in this case seems to be the name of the photo department/agency that worked with the New York World-Telegram, the newspaper where this image was first published. It seems the newspaper and/or photo agency didn't renew their copyright (if they ever had a notice to begin with). 19h00s (talk) 23:31, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
  •  Keep LOC released the image. World Wide Photo distributed the image and they never copyrighted their images or renewed them. A good reason to fix the license, not delete the image. --RAN (talk) 17:31, 15 June 2025 (UTC)
