Description

Nederlands: In zijn Atlas Maior die in 1662 in 11 delen verscheen, nam Joan Blaeu (1598-1673) 7 nieuwe kaarten van Afrika op. Het is veelal onduidelijk aan welke bronnen Blaeu die informatie ontleende. Dat geldt niet voor deze kaart van de benedenloop van de rivier de Zaire. De kaart werd vermoedelijk samengesteld naar informatie die Blaeu verkreeg van de Nederlandse ontdekkingsreiziger Jan van Herden.

English: In his Atlas Maior, published in 1662 in 11 volumes, Joan Blaeu (1598-1673) included 7 new maps of Afric. Blaeus sources for these maps are unknown. However, we do know the source for the lower Zaire river. Blaeu probable created the map after information from the Dutch explorer Jan van Herden.
