English: Library of Congress caption : "Print shows American, British and Hessian soldiers fighting furiously at the Siege of Yorktown". Original English caption : "Washington, assisted by the french troups under the orders of count de Rochambeau, attacks the English commanded by Cornwallis who pressed by superior forces shuts himself up in Yorktown, he is immediately besieged there, and so closely blocaded that he is forced to surrender himself prisoner of war with 8000 men, the 19th of december [sic] 1781". [the correct surrender date is 19 October 1781]

Français : "Washington, secondé par les troupes françaises sous les ordres du comte de Rochambeau attaque les Anglais commandés par Cornwallis qui, pressé par des forces supérieures se renferme dans Yorktown, il est aussitôt assiégé et si étroitement bloqué qu'il est forcé de se rendre prisonnier de guere avec Huit mille hommes, le 19 Décembre [sic] 1781." [la véritable date de reddition est le 19 octobre 1781]
