Description
English: Moray eels have two sets of jaws: 1) the oral jaws that capture prey; and 2) the pharyngeal jaws (similar to the jaws of the monster in the movie, "Alien") that advance into the mouth and move prey from the oral jaws to the oesophagus for swallowing.
Français : Schéma illustrant le fonctionnement des mâchoires pharyingeales d'une murène. Les murènes ont deux types de mâchoires : 1) les mâchoires orales, qui capturent la proie ; et 2) les mâchoires pharyngeales (similaires aux mâchoires du monstre dans le film Alien) qui s'avancent dans la bouche et font progresser la proie depuis les mâchoires orales jusqu'à l'œsophage pour l'avaler.
