File:ISI Multipath Corrupted Bipolar NRZ Signal.svg

Summary

Description

The (normalised) transmission pattern of what was an ASCII '[' (binary 01011101) using rectangular bipolar non-return-to-zero signalling but has been corrupted by multipath effects resulting in 01010101 (ASCII 'U'). This (simplistic) multipath model has the following delays added onto the main signal:

  • -0.35 scaled version after 0.4 bit periods
  • -0.20 scaled version after 0.6 bit periods
  • 0.08 scaled version after 1.2 bit periods
  • 0.35 scaled version after 2.2 bit periods
  • -0.35 scaled version after 3.3 bit periods
  • 0.29 scaled version after 4.2 bit periods
  • 0.32 scaled version after 6.0 bit periods

The output decision is modelled as a simple integrate-and-dump circuit followed by a sampler synchronised to the bit periods. Intended for use as one of a series of example images in the en:Intersymbol interference article on en. The other images include:

Made using MATLAB, converted to SVG with this script, and final editing (adding the binary values along the top) done with a text editor. If you want the MATLAB code feel free to contact me.
