Other versions

Stema municipiului Bucureşti, potrivit anexei nr. 16, se compune dintr-un scut roşu, în care este înfăţişat Sfântul Dumitru, aureolat şi în poziţie pedestră, purtând vestimentaţia specifică legiunilor romane şi însemnele specifice unui sfânt militar: suliţa şi crucea.

Scutul este plasat pe pieptul unei acvile cruciate, de aur, cu ciocul şi ghearele roşii, ce poartă o coroană deschisă. În gheara dreaptă acvila ţine o sabie de argint, cu mâner de aur, iar în cea stângă, un sceptru în aceeaşi cromatică.

În partea inferioară se află o eşarfă tricoloră pe care s-a scris deviza: "PATRIA ŞI DREPTUL MEU". Întreaga reprezentare este plasată într-un scut albastru, timbrat de o coroană murală de argint, formată din şapte turnuri crenelate, din care iese o acvilă cruciată, naturală, cu zborul deschis.

Semnificaţia elementelor însumate:

- Sfântul Dumitru este patronul oraşului;

- acvila cruciată atestă faptul că stema aparţine capitalei ţării;

- coroana deschisă, asemănătoare cu cea purtată de Mircea cel Bătrân, aminteşte de îndelungata existenţă a aşezării;

- culoarea eşarfei pe care s-a scris deviza simbolizează participarea locuitorilor municipiului la Revoluţia din Decembrie 1989.
