Summary

Encoding the message "WIKI" with arithmetic coding

1. The letter frequencies are found.
2. The interval [0, 1) is partitioned in the ratio of the frequencies.
35. The corresponding interval is iteratively partitioned for each letter in the message.
6. Any value in the final interval is chosen to represent the message.
2*6*. The partitioning and value if the message were "KIWI" instead.
Description

Step 2: The interval [0, 1) is partitioned in the ratio of the frequencies. Steps 3 to 5: the corresponding interval is iteratively partitioned for each letters in the message. Step 6: Any value in the final interval is chosen to represent the message. Steps 2* to 6*: The partitioning and value if the message were "KIWI" instead.
