Description |
Horizontal, black and white postcard showing drilling men posed in front of a two-story brick building at Camp Valdahon, France. Several men are leaning out of the windows of the building, which is possibly a barracks. Several of the drilling men are posed on a horse. A caption along the upper edge of the postcard reads: "7. Camp de Valdahon - Vue interieure." A caption along the lower edge reads: "Raoul Mabile, photog., Le Valdon (Doubs)." The postcard is addressed to Miss Mildred O'Toole, 1912 Dodier St., St. Louis, Mo. It was written by Edward R. Dependahl to Mildred, his fiancee, while he was serving in France just after World War I. The postcard is dated December 30, 1918, and the handwritten note on the back reads: "ER Dependahl, U.S. Army, France, Soldiers Mail. Dearest Mill, Still waiting to find time to write a letter and think that time will come tomorrow. Nothing new only plenty of snow and rain and disagreeable weather. Love & XX Ed." A stamp and signature indicate that the note passed the censors. |
