Unreliable source (Facebook), so no evidence for the claim of the applicability of the PD-Cuba terms Grand-Duc (talk) 04:11, 7 June 2025 (UTC)

@Grand-Duc: Reverse image searches only give Facebook results due to Cuban footballers not tending to have the most readily available sources. Something worth pointing out is that the Facebook account was from a now-defunct official Cuban sports program and not some random account. SuperSkaterDude45 (talk) 04:28, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
Some official social media account is better than one of a random passers-by, yes. But that's not really a point here. The PD-Cuby templates states, for that a photograph is PD in the US too: "First published in Cuba without compliance with US copyright formalities and used in Cuba before February 20, 1972". The photo was taken between 1970 and 1979, with encompasses this limit of 1972, with more years being later. So, you have to prove that this image was used in Cuba before "February 20, 1972". And it is quite possible that imagery was used in print (newspapers and such), a usage that does not reflect itself in online sources today. You cannot rely upon reverse image searches, in my opinion. Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 04:52, 7 June 2025 (UTC)

Files in Category:1970 photographs of France

These postcards appear to copyrighted per the publication date of 1970 and/or copyright symbols on the backs. So the images should be deleted as COPYVIO. And in case anyone wants to claim they are PD because of the source, per this this page "MédiHal is an open archive which enables to deposit visual and audio data (still images, videos and sounds), produced as part of scientific research. These data are stored in a secured warehouse, with backup copies of files and of their metadata. Just like the HAL open archive, MédiHAL is based upon self-archiving by French scientists."

Adamant1 (talk) 10:19, 16 February 2025 (UTC)

Adamant1, I don't understand. Your quote above and the Open License shown on the source site seems to cover an acceptable license for Commons. That assumes that these appear on the site with the consent of the copyright holder, but I'm prepared to assume it -- if I underestand the site's structure, it is a repository, and all materials on it are donated. .     Jim . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 13:46, 22 May 2025 (UTC)

Kept: I agree with Jim, evidence seems to suggest Open License is proper. --Abzeronow (talk) 23:56, 6 June 2025 (UTC)

Files in Category:1970 photographs of France

All of these postcards were imported from an open website MédiHal, where scientists self-archive images and other data related to their scientific research. A postcard obviously isn't "scientific data" created by scientists as part of their research. So there's no reason the license would be valid if taken on it's face. Further, the postcards where published by multiple publishers in the 1970s and there's evidence (or reason) that a scientist uploading an image to MédiHal in 2025 as part of their research would own the copyrights to the images. A random scientist on the internet obviously wouldn't have bought the copyrights the images from multiple postcard publishers that probably don't even exist anymore due to the age of the postcards. So they should be deleted per the PCP unless someone can provide evidence to the contrary. (@Abzeronow: as the admin who closed the previous DR when there was zero evidence that the images are public domain).

This file was initially tagged by TansoShoshen as Speedy (SD) and the most recent rationale was: F3|2=Performance of national anthem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-hEflR-oR0 Paul_012 (talk) 13:45, 7 June 2025 (UTC)

  • Challenged in the spirit of F3: This does not apply to photographs taken in a public place... Given the complexity of copyright rules like freedom of panorama and de minimis, it is best for such issues to be resolved in a formal deletion request. --Paul_012 (talk) 13:46, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
Comment as nominator: So after reviewing COM:FOP Thailand, there's the clause "A photograph or cinematograph or video broadcast of a work of which an artistic work is a component shall not be deemed an infringement of copyright in the artistic work.". Now I don't speak Thai, there could be some nuance in the original text which has not been translated over to English.

The biggest problem here is that the copyrighted material in question is audio, not visual. I don't think freedom of panorama could apply since this isn't a visual recording of music. I would say that the national anthem is still the main focus of the video, as an integral part to understanding the context. TansoShoshen (talk) 18:29, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
Checking the text of the law, "artistic work" does not include "musical work" or "sound and video broadcasting work", which are defined separately in Section 4 of the act. So the provisions of Sections 37 and 39 indeed don't apply. This is of course assuming that the specific performance, recording and broadcast are copyrighted. In any case, it should be possible to edit the file to remove the audio if necessary, without needing to delete entire thing, if the result would still be useful. --Paul_012 (talk) 04:51, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
The thing is, I think the audio in this file is integral. Without it, there's no context as to what the people are standing to. Replacing the audio with any free performance of the Thai anthem would be inauthentic to the educational value the video currently provides. TansoShoshen (talk) 14:29, 8 June 2025 (UTC)

File:Lipid-based nanoparticle.png

Out of scope: fanciful AI-generated scientific illustration. This is a decent imitation of the style of a biological illustration, but many of the details in this image appear to have been chosen at random - e.g. the shell-like structure of the "lipid nanoparticle" in this image is not at all consistent with the actual structure of such a particle, and the photo appears to depict the particle as being similar in size to, or larger than, a red blood cell, rather than several orders of magnitude smaller. Omphalographer (talk) 22:26, 7 June 2025 (UTC)

It is a GenAI illustration - no less, no more. I think it has value for Wikipedia readers - in the sense that it makes it less "boring" and somewhat poor with respect to visualization. Oronbb (talk) 04:02, 8 June 2025 (UTC)
