Please change the spelling to Category:Christian Ludwig Endriß. This is not a beta but a sharp s. NearEMPTiness (talk) 07:48, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- @NearEMPTiness: I tried moving this category, but it seems that the software can't handle the sharp s. In the process of trying to move it, I may have lost whatever categorization this category had. Can you point me to where I can find appropriate categories for it, or categorize it yourself? Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 03:24, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Auntof6: Thanks for trying. The new category with the German spelling contained just one file: File:Rela+º+úo de Alem+úes Obra da Rua da Gloria 1856 - pag 1.jpg which is now in the old category with the Greek spelling. It also contained one subcategory with the Greek spelling. --NearEMPTiness (talk) 03:41, 12 May 2025 (UTC)

Category:Automobiles with more than four wheels
Automobiles are commonly defined as four-wheeled, low-passenger motorized road vehicles. So, any motorized road vehicle with more than four wheels should be categorized under Category:Vehicles by number of wheels, not here. Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs • uploads) 18:23, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
Oppose You hint at a rigid 'definition' existing for automobiles, yet you don't cite one.
- Yes, "
Automobiles are commonly defined as four-wheeled
". That's the point. They're not rigidly defined as such, but this is the common happenstance for it. In such a case, these exceptional (and indeed unusual) cases stand out as something outside the norm, hence this category. - There is absolutely no reason to exclude Category:Six-wheeled automobiles from being subchildren of Category:Automobiles. Andy Dingley (talk) 19:43, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
Oppose while there are a few vehicles here where I could see challenging their categorization as an automobile, I could say the same for the entire, massive Category:SUVs. Most of these are clearly automobiles; all have more than four wheels; it is silly to try to refute that by defining automobiles in a way that tautologically excludes them.
- Note that we also have the more extensive Category:Three-wheeled automobiles. - Jmabel ! talk 02:41, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Andy Dingley and Jmabel: I think the four-wheeled clause of the common definition is not always valid, and it is similar to having Category:Three-wheeled motorcycles despite motorcycles being commonly defined as two-wheeled motorized road vehicles. So, the subcats of the nominated category can be kept, but the main category should be renamed to Category:Automobiles by number of wheels to include subcats like Category:Three-wheeled automobiles. Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs • uploads) 06:42, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
Oppose that too. This is (as is every edit I ever see from you) just pointless make-work editing to find 'things to change', even when the end result is bizarre, confusing and makes use of the site by our readers harder. Andy Dingley (talk) 10:12, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
This is just (as is every edit I ever see from you) just pointless make-work editing to find 'things to change', even when the end result is bizarre, confusing and makes use of the site by our readers harder.
- @Andy Dingley: Can you explain your objection to my contributions? I have clearly mentioned on my userpage that you can object to my contributions in general at my talk page, and I will try my best to fix the issues. I don't see how renaming Category:Automobiles with more than four wheels to Category:Automobiles by number of wheels will be "bizarre", "confusing" and make navigating the website "harder". It will actually help diffuse various automobile media according to the number of wheels. Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs • uploads) 14:05, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- You have a poor grasp of English idiom. So that every time I see an edit from you, it is an attempt to go against English language convention and to 'fix' it, despite that then being incorrect, out of the ordinary, and confusing to the reader. As an example, your removal of Category:Sports cars.
- There is no advantage to removing Category:Automobiles with more than four wheels when, as your own nomination implies, these are rare and exceptional. Andy Dingley (talk) 15:34, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
Oppose I have never heard of this definition Dronebogus (talk) 04:22, 8 May 2025 (UTC)

Category:Categories of New South Wales
I don't think we need a category named "category". We have New South Wales by topic, so "Categories of New South Wales" is superflous. Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 03:39, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- I would like to include Category:Categories of New South Wales by year in this. - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 03:40, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
Delete To my awareness "By year" categories are normally put in the topic category without a "Categories of" category. Crouch, Swale (talk) 13:04, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
Delete. "Categories of..." categories are almost always redundant. Categories related to some topic should be under the top-level category for that topic; there's no need for an extra level of indirection. Omphalographer (talk) 22:15, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
Delete per above. Category:New South Wales by topic has replaced this metacat for most purposes, rendering this category useless beyond categorizing other metacats. Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs • uploads) 16:52, 6 May 2025 (UTC)

Category:Education facilities in Australia by state or territory
Not necessary. All of these categories can be placed under Category:Educational Organisations… - Chris.sherlock2 (talk) 01:22, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
- I disagree. This is a standard category used also for other countries (see Category:Education facilities by country). There is a difference between a facility (eg a building) and an organisation. If it is the case that some of the files in these categories are wrongly categorised, then the solution is to recat them, not to delete some of the categories. Category:Sleeping organisms
Redundant to Category:Sleeping animals, as so far only animals (including humans) sleep or appear to be sleeping. I'm not a biologist, and I'm not sure whether plants, fungi or microbes can sleep, or at least appear to be sleeping in the traditional sense. Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs • uploads) 17:26, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
Support. There are various biological definitions of "sleep", but none of them meaningfully apply to organisms outside Animalia. As it stands, this category - as well as many of its subcategories - is primarily being used as a union of categories which count sleeping animals and ones which count sleeping people; this does not strike me as a useful generalization. (There's no realistic situation where one would say e.g. "I need a picture of five sleeping organisms, but it doesn't matter if they're animals or people.") Category:Mexican Shepherd
I can't find any indication that this is a recognized dog breed. Omphalographer (talk) 18:12, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
- Actually, you might be right. I assumed the dog in the photo was a "Mexican Shepherd" based on this description about it in Spanish (can be found in details of the photo):
- However, Mexican Kennel Club has not recognized any breed under this name (as the Mexican Wolfdog/ Calupoh is a completely different breed). Canarian (talk) 18:56, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, I saw that description too, but the impression I get is that the author was probably just describing their own dog in glowing terms. It happens a lot. Omphalographer (talk) 20:32, 6 May 2025 (UTC)

- @Oursana: I seem to remember you leaving me messages about having museum inventory numbers in category names. Would you like to weigh in on this? -- Auntof6 (talk) 19:29, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
- With paintings especially and all artworks it is necessary and useful to give the artist's name, as the main characteristic of the artwork, where our users are looking for. So I prefer just this first naming Inlaid mechanical table (Oeben & Vandercruse), but one could also add the Museum, inventory number would not do any improvement. alternate cat name Inlaid mechanical table (Oeben & Vandercruse, Metropolitan Museum of Art)
- User:Finoskov first created correctly this cat Inlaid mechanical table (Oeben & Vandercruse).
- User:HLHJ shouldn't have created the duplicate cat Category:Madame de Pompadour's mechanical table (MET 1982.60.61) causing this cfd. This was useless and incorrect.
- I deleted the other duplicate cat. If this is wanted we can always make the addition Inlaid mechanical table (Oeben & Vandercruse, Metropolitan Museum of Art) but this is not necessary, and to use standard pure cat naming, this cat naming is sufficient. My opinion is supported by the artwork's title from the Museum.

Category:Mysore by year
This category is used for Category:Mysore (Mysuru), as well as for Category:Kingdom of Mysore, and Category:Karnataka from 1947 to 1973 when it was named "Mysore State". That's confusing, as Category:Mysore without qualifiers refers to a city and not a kingdom. I think this category should be split into the following:
- Category:Mysore by year (for the city)
- Category:Kingdom of Mysore by year (for the kingdom)
- Category:Karnataka by year (for the 1947-1973 Mysore State period)

Hi. I've just moved the Wikipedia page about the subject to Katie Wallis due to a name change.
I've already changed the Wikidata entry, but I'm not sure what's the moving procedure for Commons categories. Could someone more experienced move this category, please?
Thanks! Amberkitten (talk) 02:48, 20 May 2025 (UTC)

Category:Actors by production
Listing every single human who have ever appeared in any Scooby Doo media is something that belongs on IMDB or Wikipedia, not Commons
Vast majority of people listed are not even known for their involvement with the franchise (Kiss, Macklemore, Jessica Biel and Steve Buscemi??!)
As far as i can tell this was created by the same obsessive IP adress who also created Space Jam, Steamboat Willie, Mickey Mouse, The Lego Movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Scooby-Doo and Scoob! Trade (talk) 03:22, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
Comment Can we expand this to the entirety of Category:Actors by production? There are a few subcategories which should stay which aren't actually about specific productions, like Category:Actors of commedia dell'arte, but almost everything in this category is yet another instance of IMDb-as-Commons-categories and should be deleted. In particular:
- Category:Actors by theatre, Category:Musical theatre actors, Category:Porn actors, Category:Shakespearean actors, and Category:Soap opera actors are all conceptually fine, but don't belong in this category.
- Category:Male actors by production should be deleted, as well as all of its subcategories except Category:Male actors by theatre, Category:Male musical theatre actors, Category:Male porn actors, and .Category:Male Shakespearean actors, and Category:Male soap opera actors.
- Category:Actresses by production should be deleted, as well as all of its subcategories except Category:Actresses by theatre, Category:Musical theatre actresses, Category:Porn actresses, Category:Shakespearean actresses, and Category:Soap opera actresses.
- Category:Comics actors and Category:Anime actors should be deleted, along with all of their "PRODUCTION actors" subcategories.

Category:Buttons
I feel like this should be a disambiguation page since there isn't anything in common between pin buttons, doorbells, button braids, clothing buttons, Etc. Etc. Except that they all involve the word "button." So does anyone care if this is turned into a disambiguation page or have another idea about how to deal with it? Identical to Category:Cast members Trade (talk) 15:24, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
Potentially delete the category and all its sub-categories. Based on the debate and discussion brought up in Commons:Categories for discussion/2024/05/Category:Actors by role and those admins' decision to delete does that apply to this category and its sub-categories? Seems that the decision to proceed with deleting was based on the fact that a lot of the categories didn't contain relevant media (images/videos) and were just categories collecting information by naming actors or actresses affiliated with roles of notable characters. The only difference is that these categories are associated with a project (tv show, movie franchise, etc.) Diddykong1130 (talk) 07:43, 3 June 2025 (UTC)

Category:Films by actor
This does not feel like an meaningful nor helpful way to categorize films. This is Wikimedia Commons, not Wikidata. We are not supposed to list every single person who have ever appeared in a film Trade (talk) 22:19, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
Delete. There's been a number of discussions regarding categories of this nature. Each time, there's been a rough consensus for deletion, but no action taken:

Delete--Trade (talk) 19:10, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
Delete These types of category structures don't exist to diffuse media from crowded parent categories to smaller child catgories, and tend to create circular (or otherwise problematic) categorization trees. We have for instance the metacat "Films by actor", but also the metacat "Cast members". And so you end up with circular category trees that look like this: Film > Film cast members > Actor > Films starring actor > Film > etc. ReneeWrites (talk) 14:25, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
Delete The point in categories is to organize media related to the subject. These types of categories are rarely, if ever, useful ways to do that. Plus, as ReneeWrites points out, their just circular. --Adamant1 (talk) 18:34, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- BTW, if anyone wants to see a perfect example of just how ridiculous this whole thing can get checkout the wall of "films staring" parent categories in Category:Avengers: Endgame lmao. --Adamant1 (talk) 21:27, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Trade, Omphalographer, ReneeWrites, and Adamant1: Before I start processing these, I want to be clear about the intent. Is it to delete categories with names like "Films starring <actor>" (plus any categories that become empty when those are deleted)? Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 22:42, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, the "Films starring..." categories should all be deleted unless they directly contain files. Omphalographer ([[User talk:|talk]]) 22:47, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Omphalographer: Why does containing files make a difference? -- Auntof6 (talk) 22:52, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Omphalographer: Because it seems like if that's the case, we would just copy the files from the film category to the actor category. -- Auntof6 (talk) 22:53, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- Right, and that's a perfectly good way to handle them - all I meant was that those categories would need some special handling beyond simple deletion. Omphalographer (talk) 22:57, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- I don't think that's a good way to handle them. For example, Category:Wicked (film) is under Category:Films starring Michelle Yeoh. However, not everything in that film category is directly related to Michelle Yeoh. For example, there are logos of the film, and pictures of the other actors alone. Or did you mean just copy the ones that do show the actor, then break the connection between the film and the actor? -- Auntof6 (talk) 23:07, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if it's directly relevant to what your saying but at least IMO categories for actors and films shouldn't be connected at all to begin with. Otherwise images for the actor are either put in the category for the film when they don't related to it. Or the reverse happens and images or categories for the film get added to the one for the actor when they don't necessarily directly relate to each other in any meaningful way. --Adamant1 (talk) 23:54, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- Suitable subcategories for actors and films (or TV series) would reference both in the category title. For example Category:Glenn Close in Tehran (TV series) is a child category for both Glenn Close and the TV series Tehran. This avoids the whole problem with creating circular category structures or subcategories having a broader scope from their parent.
- With most modern films you won't find a lot of media with a specific actor in that film that are freely licensed, but with historical movies in the public domain this might be different. But almost all subcategories here are about modern films, and don't reference or contain media of specific actors/actresses, and those could (and should) all be deleted. ReneeWrites (talk) 07:21, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- Category:Wicked (film) is a perfectly fine category in and of itself, and I don't think anyone here thinks it needs to be deleted. What we don't need are the "linkage" categories like Category:Films starring Michelle Yeoh. Omphalographer (talk) 00:52, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's the "Films starring [name]" categories that are the problem. ReneeWrites (talk) 07:22, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if it's directly relevant to what your saying but at least IMO categories for actors and films shouldn't be connected at all to begin with. Delete all. I've checked a few, and they ultimately end being containers of subcategories in which the subjects do not appear in any of the images nor, often, have a significant role (eg. Category:Films starring Pietro Bigerna, where Pietro Bigerna, whose WP notability is questionable and borderline, in most films is barely more than an extra with lines). --Cavarrone (talk) 08:01, 7 June 2025 (UTC)

Category:Cosplay of characters by year
There is nothing useful about this type of categories. If i want to see cosplay of a work at a specific event i can simply look in the "Cosplay of X in Y country" category. If i want to find cosplay from a specific year i can simply look in "Anime conventions by year" or similar
Quite frankly there is little difference between an Spider-Man cosplay from 2025 and a Spider-Man cosplay from 2003
As far as i can tell this was created by the same obsessive IP adress who also created Space Jam, Steamboat Willie, Mickey Mouse, The Lego Movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Scooby-Doo and Scoob! Trade (talk) 23:48, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

Plus the whole "Cosplay of whomever and his cast" thing like with Category:Cosplay of Batman and his cast is totally nonsensical anyway. Someone should go through and up-merge or just delete any "and his cast" categories regardless of this discussion or how it turns out. --Adamant1 (talk) 23:59, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

Delete Good catch, and I, too, agree with Adamant1. — WFinch (talk) 03:17, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
Delete A reason to create such a category can be to relieve a large category, with lots of files. But most of the subcategories have only a few files, so they can be merged. The exception is Cosplay of Spider-Man by year. Perhaps for that category another solution should be created, because when you just merge them together to the main category, it will be very crowded.
- JopkeB (talk) 03:56, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- Pretty sure this is what "Spider-Man by country" is supposed to alleviate Trade (talk) 06:24, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
- A lot of the photographs of people cosplaying Spider-Man are of the same person and event. So they are (or should) already be organized by year and country based on either one. --Adamant1 (talk) 06:54, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
