File:Freshwater river redirection.png

Summary

Description
English: A schematic showing how a river can be redirected so that the water may be used for drinking water, irrigation, ... The schematic was made based on a plan to divert the murray river inland and break the connection with the sea. It was reported that besides giving a supply of already fairly pure freshwater, other benefits exist too such as the halting of the salination of rivers. In addition, it might allow to control pollution of the river (as it becomes a greater asset to villagers) and also implement additional pollution control regarding pollution from ships. Note: a second seawater buffer box should have actually been placed after the lock aswell, but this was not done in order to increase clarity of the system

This technology image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.
It is recommended to name the SVG file “Freshwater river redirection.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.

When a rediversion of a river such as described here is done, it may also be useful to change the marking buoy system. At present the IALA-A system for example adheres to a different color pattern than what is usual (red for left side, green for right) when facing the river mouth. It may be advisable to change navigation lights and markings to red for right, green for left and extent this troughout the entire system, and make sure the red buoys are placed on the right side, and the green buoys are placed on the left side (when facing the river coming from the sea).
