Musical notation images are typically created in scorewriter software packages from source files. As such, the favoured form for editing such graphics is the actual source notation format used by the scorewriter software. Providing such source notation aids other editors in improving, copying and building on such graphics, and may be a requirement to comply with the transparency requirement of the GNU Free Documentation License.
Preferred source file types are plain text formats such as uncompressed MusicXML, uncompressed MuseScore and GNU LilyPond, as these can be placed inline on the description page.
