• "The first Timurid governor of Shiraz was Timur’s grandson, Iskandar Sulṭān b. ‘Umar Shaykh (1409-1415). He was succeded by another grandson, Ibrāhim b. Shāhrukh (1415-1435), who was succeeded by his son ‘Abdallah (1435-1452). After the Timurid ruler Shāhrukh b. Timur died in 1447, contending Timurid princes started quarrelling over the succession among themselves. Weakened by strife, they were unable to protect all their territory, and western Iran was conquered first by the Qara Qoyunlu (1375-1468) and then by the Aq Qoyunlu armies." The Qara Qoyunlu, a Turkoman confederation, controlled Shiraz from 1452. "Shiraz was occupied in 1452 and remained under Qara Qoyunlu (1375-1468) control until 1469.", first under Qara Qoyunlu Governor Pir Budaq, then under his brother Mirza Yusuf The city of Shiraz was then captured by the Aq Qoyunlu of Uzun Hasan in 1468-69.

• "If Pir Budāq can be compared with Iskandar Sulțān, then Üzün Hasan finds his earlier counterpart in Tīmür. Like the great conquerer, he had his palaces decorated with murals, and though interested in history he had no literary or artistic pretensions. But two of his sons, Khalil and Yaʻqūb, amply compensated for this deficiency. Khalil succeeded his father on the latter's death in 1478, but he was slain within a year by the troops of his younger brother. Yaʻqūb set up his court at Tabriz, where he patronized the poet Jāmī and a group of talented artists, but on his death in 1490 the Turkman power fell to pieces, three or four rival princes contesting for the supreme power, till they were swept away in the national revival led by Shah Ismail Safavi as the new century dawned." Identification: The Prince appearing in the pages of Divan (Collected Works) of Hidayat, 1478 (CBL, T 401) is identified with Aq Qoyunlu Sultan Khalil, who is also the Prince to whom the work is dedicated in the colophon, in (1999) The Aqquyunlu: clan, confederation, empire, Salt Lake City: University of Utah Press, p. 126, Plate III ISBN: 0874805651.
