Description	English: Humpback whale tail (Megaptera novaeangliae) at Ísafjarðardjúp (Iceland). Each whale has unique patterns on its tail, like a fingerprint. Based on a good quality photograph of a whale tail, researchers can identify a specific individual by comparing the photo with a database of photographed whale tails. Using the GPS coordinates and the date of the photograph of each whale tail, it is possible to study the migrations carried out by each individual.
