The three stars represent the three major Syrian regions (Damascus, Aleppo, and Deir ez-Zor) that formed the foundation of the modern Syrian state upon independence. The red color symbolizes the blood of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Syria's freedom. The stars also symbolize the values of the Syrian Revolution: freedom, dignity, and justice.
White
Stands for peace and purity and symbolizes the historic Umayyad Caliphate, during which Damascus was the capital.
Green
Represents the Rashidun Caliphate and symbolizes hope, growth, and Syria's Arab and Islamic heritage.
Black
Represents periods of oppression and struggle in Syria's history while also symbolizing the Abbasid Caliphate.
