Summary
| Description |
English: A square with inscribed circle and subdivided into parts by a grid, illustrating an ancient method of calculating a circular area by approximation. As demonstrated in the Rhind Papyrus (book II, problem 48) copied by Ahmes/Ahmose around 1550 BC. The area of a circle is estimated as roughly 7/9 of a square whose side equals the circle's diameter (i.e. pi is approximated by 28/9 = 3.111..).
