English: B is a child window of A. As B is much bigger than A, only a part of B is shown and the rest clipped. In this example, window B can be moved around using the scroll bars C, which are typically realized as seperate windows, too. D is what the user usually gets to know as "window": a top level window including decorations. If the window manager is reparenting, D is indeed a window.
