AI-generated COM:FANART of a specific actress playing a specific fictional character. File:HG Prompt.png clearly looks like Emma Watson despite the AI only being asked to render a young girl with long, voluminous, curly brown hair - either the combination of other cues somehow led it to use Harry Potter source material when drawing a female student in this context, or it was given a copyrighted input image, or there was some conversational context that isn't reflected in the prompt.

Belbury (talk) 11:08, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

Those images are an original AI-generated work created using a prompt that did not mention any copyrighted characters, actors, or media. The resemblance that user believes he see to Emma Watson (in only one of the two images listed: the first one does not resemble any specific person) is purely coincidental. No copyrighted reference material or actor likeness prompts were used during generation. Unless verifiable evidence is provided that a copyrighted image or character likeness was directly copied, this deletion request remains based on subjective interpretation rather than Commons policy. —Franar8 (talk) 18:24, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
Unfortunately, this is a thing which happens - image models are trained on a wide variety of images, often including copyrighted media, and can converge on outputs which are derivative works of that media when given a prompt which nudges them in that direction. For instance, asking an image model to draw an Italian plumber is very likely to generate results which look like the Nintendo character Mario; those images are derivative works of the Nintendo character, even if the user prompting the model did not intend them to be. The fact that the output was not "directly copied" from a copyrighted source is immaterial. Omphalographer (talk) 20:26, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
If the deletion request is based on the claim that one of the images resembles Emma Watson, then the logical and proportionate course of action would be to delete only that specific image, not both. The other image (the first one listed, "Retrato a Mano de Hermione IA") does not resemble any recognizable person, and there is no indication that it violates copyright or personality rights.
Commons policy does not require deletion simply because an image was AI-generated, nor based on speculation about training data. Deletion should only occur when there is a clear and demonstrable infringement. If only one of the two images raises legitimate concerns, then that image alone should be considered for deletion.--Franar8 (talk) 20:37, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
The other image also looks more like Emma Watson than your physical description of young girl with thick, voluminous, wavy light brown hair and straight-cut bangs [...] slightly imperfect front teeth alone would suggest, I assume for the same "Italian plumber" reasoning above. The image model's training data includes a lot of Harry Potter content which has taught it that people who wear this exact costume tend to have Emma Watson's face.
COM:FANART is allowed on Commons "provided it does not copy the specific realizations of the book cover illustrations, the movies, or the computer games". If an AI has on some level interpreted your request as being for a picture of Emma Watson playing Hermione Granger, we don't know how much it's drawing from specific realizations to do that. Belbury (talk) 14:02, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
I'd add that, if you're using ChatGPT, the images it generates may be based in part on any part of your chat session with the service - it's not limited to the most recent input. Any mention of anything related to Harry Potter, even tangentially (e.g. wizards, magic, British boarding schools) could potentially be enough to cue it to produce an output based on images from the film series. Ai generated image Kreuzecharmeur (talk) 13:35, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

Keep User:Kreuzecharmeur previously nominated File:County_Limerick_Coat_of_Arms.png and other Coat of Arms files by myself for deletion. It has already been explained to Kreuzexharmeur that
  1. that the files are NOT AI generated, they’re AI assisted. Meaning only portions of them are made in ChatGPT but the majority of the work is manually down in GIMP
  2. Even if the files were AI generated, they are in INUSE for legitimate purposes
  3. As per the file descriptions, everything done with these images is otherwise inline COM:AI guidelines
I would request that Kreuzecharmeur familiarise themselves with COM:AI, read the discussions in these deletion threads, and stop nominating files like these on the grounds of “AI generated” alone. CeltBrowne (talk) 19:09, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
Learn how to draw coat of arms, we humans aren't disabled to draw, or keep these abominations to yourself; we don't need Ai generated images in Heraldry. Kreuzecharmeur (talk) 20:51, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
Why is it in use, though, when there are alternatives: File:COA IRL Kilkenny City.svg? Are those alternatives not true to the real COA? Is the AI-assisted one more accurate? Nakonana (talk) 16:52, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
File:COA IRL Kilkenny City.svg contains three errors per the official blazon (image 123);
  1. The central tower is supposed to be capped by a spire the centre one the tallest and topped with the spire. File:COA IRL Kilkenny City.svg does not include a spire.
  2. The central tower should not bear any arms on it (it's not mentioned in the blazon). File:COA IRL Kilkenny City.svg includes arms for some reason.
  3. The man in the doorway of the central tower is supposed to be wielding a cudgel in his right hand In the doorway in the centre a man bearing a cudget in the dexter hand. In File:COA IRL Kilkenny City.svg I can't tell if that's a cudgel or simply the man's arm.
CeltBrowne (talk) 22:14, 11 June 2025 (UTC)

Why exactly do you think that it doesn't apply? This is not a coin by the way Crispybeatle (talk) 15:05, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
"A mere mechanical reproduction of some other image, such as an unmodified photocopy or scan of a drawing, cannot attract additional copyright protection over and above that of the original, as it lacks originality: it is a bare copy, no more. That rule applies internationally and, on Commons, is normally taken for granted." I believe this applies Crispybeatle (talk) 15:09, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

His date of birth, 6th April 1887, was misreported on various web pages as 9th April 1887. When contacted by members of his family to correct the situation sites refused to make changes as other pages also carried the same error (in a circular dependency). • I'd be surprised (but not astounded) if anything significant there was not used before 1989; I'd guess those elements are all {{PD-US-no notice}} or possibly {{PD-US-1978-89}}, but I can't prove it. I see an online example of use in 2003, but I don't think I've seen an Arizona birth certificate issued earlier than that. If someone has access to such a document, we should check. - Jmabel ! talk 02:43, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
  •  Keep I agree with Jmabel, I am not seeing copyrightable elements, perhaps if it was higher resolution, the seal in the lower right might be, but for now is not discernable. --RAN (talk) 22:33, 30 May 2025 (UTC)

Out of scope: these headshots both look fake - in both cases, there are obvious signs that the head was cut and pasted onto the body.

File:Trans World Airlines - TWA Lockheed L-1049A Super Constellation Star of the Seine N6902C in flight.jpg

1950s American photograph, the source indeed has a CC license but since the photographer doesn't appear to be Arizona State University the license is dubious. It probably is public domain by non-renewal but this needs to be checked. Abzeronow (talk) 23:39, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

I also found this image on a magazine, published in 1950s
Magazine
From LOSTFLIGHT has a description (5th image): "During the early 1950s, TWA provided advertising photos of N6902C to companies that built aircraft systems for the Lockheed Super Constellation. In this case, B.F. Goodrich for providing wing and tail De-Ice Boots."
I don't see copyright notice on the magazine.
Also according to the website, TWA no longer use N6902C image on postcards or advertisements after the accident. I can be sure that it was published before 1956 or in that year. Tô Ngọc Khang (talk) 00:04, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
I will also confirm that I don't see a copyright notice, and I don't see a reason why TWA would renew copyright for that anyway in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Thanks for the supporting evidence. Abzeronow (talk) 00:10, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
This image maybe in the public domain. Tô Ngọc Khang (talk) 00:10, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
I replaced CC license by PD-US-no-notice, since no copyright notice on the magazine Tô Ngọc Khang (talk) 01:23, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
